Central Park to host top women's football in 21/22 season

The FAW have today announced the new Pyramid set up for Welsh Football in Wales and the club are thrilled that Denbigh Town Ladies have been chosen to take part in the brand new regional Tier 2 league. This means that Denbigh Town will be there at the start of an exiting new league, run and promoted by the FAW, containing the eight top womens football clubs in North Wales.

There was a rigorous selection process which started at the beginning of the year with clubs submitting evidence to satisfy the FAW regarding The Code of Practice, Finances, Infrastructure, Legal, Personnel and Sporting criteria. Twelve teams were successful during the Phase 1 with two other clubs deciding to opt out.

The remaining twelve clubs then had a few weeks to produce a one hour presentation, via Zoom, to a panel comprising of the FAW and the FAW Trust as well as independent legal and technical experts and other observers in a bid to show they were worthy of a top eight place.

The clubs were marked and given points in the following seven areas: Overall Club Development, Sporting,Partnerships,Financial Sustainability,Human Resources,Facilities and Media / Communications.

This needed a lot of preparation and our General Manager / Chairman Shon Powell, Team Manager Jordie Baker and team captain Elen James Owen did the business for us. Brilliant job guys!

We are exited at the prospect of giving the women's team a prominent position within the club which we hope will inspire young women and girls from all over the Vale to take up the game and aim, someday, to be part of the ladies first team squad. The number of girls attending our training sessions has already increased and have proved very, very popular.

Denbigh Ladies will be playing their home games on our brand new playing surface which we hope will be one of the best in North Wales by the time the present work is completed. If and when the current situation eases and spectators are allowed we would love to see a good crowd cheering them on from our 475-seater covered stand so please follow us on Facebook and Twitter for further news.

Head of Womens Football in Wales, Lowri Roberts said "It’s been inspiring to see the level of work clubs have put into their application. We’ve seen a real shift in mindset from the clubs in how they are developing elite environments for players and how they are building for a sustainable future. "

Wales will have a Womens Premier League which, at the moment, comprises of The New Saints, Aberystwyth and six other teams from South Wales and then the North and South Tier 2 leagues which also have eight teams each. There will also be football at Tiers 3 and below and further details will be announced in due course.

Andrew Howard, Head of Competitions at the FAW commented and finished by saying "We look forward to this exciting new chapter for women’s domestic football in Wales. "

We have spoken to our Denbigh ladies manager Jordie Baker who had this to say "Wow! What can I say? The months of hard work and preparation has paid off. I would first of all like to thank Steve Whitfield for his help throughout the whole process and Shon Powell and Iwan Jones for their support during the presentation stages of the process. This will be a great opportunity for the players but it will be very, very tough also with the teams in the league. As ever, we will strive for the best and see what we can do. We have a busy Summer ahead with lots of plans for the club and I will ensure we are ready for the league start. We can't wait to welcome you all to Central Park for the 2021/22 season"

The new Tier 2 North league will be as follows:

Airbus UK Broughton
Bethel
Connah’s Quay Nomads
Denbigh Town
Llandudno
Llanfair United
Pwllheli
Wrexham

We congratulate all the above teams and wish them good luck in the new campaign. Let's make season 2021/22 a good one!
