Fingers crossed for end of January

There is finally some light at the end of the tunnel for our first team

At a recent meeting of the FAW National League Board it was decided that the 2020/21 league will take place but in a different format.

This season the clubs will play 15 games with each team playing each other once only. Therefore, some sides will have 8 home matches and 7 away matches determined by a random draw.

The current proposed restart will be the end of January 2021 subject to Sports Wales' approval following the successful implementation of Tier 2 [ JD Cymru North and South ] protocols. The tier 2 teams will start football next weekend, 11/12/13 December when they kick off in the first round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

After some speculation locally it has been confirmed that there will be promotions and relegation in Denbigh's league. The champions of the Ardal North West and Ardal North East will both be promoted to Tier 2 [ subject to the clubs having the relevant licence ] and the runners up from both leagues will have a play off for the third promotion spot. A similar thing will happen in South Wales.

Let's hope everything goes well and we start competitive football in the New Year.

Rather than the normal football season lasting around eight months this coming shortened campaign, with all the excitement and drama, will seem like a sprint to the finishing line.

Manager Dewi Lion said " This is good news. We are buzzing to get going. It will be a tense 15 matches with very little room for error for teams looking for promotion. "

We are waiting for an official start date and fixture list and are keeping our fingers crossed that the country starts to gain some recovery during this Covid -19 pandemic allowing the planned season to go ahead.

Whether any fans will see the matches is another question but it is a start.

C'mon Denbigh!
