- Purvis shatters record as Town hit teens

Denbigh Town scored a whopping 13 goals on Sunday as Ellen Lawson’s side returned to winning ways in some style.

Against familiar opposition, Town swept aside Bellevue with nine second half goals to compliment the first half quartet for what could well be one of the biggest winning margins in Denbigh history.

Ceri Purvis meanwhile scored the cloesest hatrick in recorded history of any Denbigh side with three goals in as many minutes.

Purvis and Beth Kell both bagged five goals each whilst Sophie Bancroft (brace) and Lucy Morris were also in on the act.

Lawson named an unchanged starting XI from a week previous whilst Alaw Jones, Mali Thomas and Jess Frith all came in to make up the bench.

It took nine minutes for the first goal as Kell tapped home from a nice lay off by Charlotte Cooper. Striker Cooper almost turned goal scorer a minute later when she received the ball to the left side of the box but dragged her shot wide.

Two minutes later a handball in the box led to a Town penalty and Purvis stepped up, but she was superbly denied by Tiana Bithel. Not to be deterred, Denbigh kept pressing and Kell almost had a second when she put her header just wide from a corner.

Cooper was busy throughout and almost had her goal on 24 minutes when her effort was rifled towards goal but cleared off the line heroically. With 28 minutes on the clock however, the floodgates opened.

Purvis pounced on a mistake at the back before racing through to score at the near post before converting a penalty less than two minutes later following another handball. 60 seconds later she had a quickfire hatrick when curling an effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town Ladies 4-0 Bellevue Women

13 minutes into the second half Town had their fifth. Purvis and Kell had linked up brilliantly all afternoon as the latter squared for the former to tap home with ease. Not to be outdone, Purvis raced on to a ball down the middle before rounding the goalkeeper to add number six.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Emma Jones was shown a red card for violent conduct, after running in late on Elen James-Owen, she kicked out at the Town skipper before raising her hands to her face, and was shown a straight red card.

Within a minute of the card, Town had number seven, Kell completing her hatrick with a neat finish. Megan Edwards was having a good game and chipped in with an assist on 64 minutes when she squared the ball to Lucy Morris to turn home, before Purvis added another two minutes later.

The goal of the game fell on the 70th minute when Alaw Jones played the ball to Kell outside the box on the left, before she smashed the ball into the top corner from distance. Double figures were secured.

Kell grabbed yet another on 77 minutes for her fifth and final strike before substitute Sophie Bancroft netted the first of a brace with nine to play. Edwards hit the bar before Kell fed her in to score from close range.

Bancroft rounded off Bellevue’s misery when a third penalty was awarded for handball, and she stepped up to convert comfortably.

Credit must go to Bellevue who played their part, never giving up on a wet and windy afternoon at Central Park.
