- More Late Drama at Central Park

In a weekend of late drama Denbigh Town Ladies snatched victory in stoppage time to move up to 3rd in the NWWFL East.

Ceri Purvis’ late strike complimented Sophie Bancroft’s incredible effort to reverse the scoring after the visitors’ first-half lead.

It now draws Ellen Lawson’s side to within a point of Kinmel Bay in second and leapfrogs them over Northop Hall into third.

Lawson named one change as Shannon Jones returned for the unavailable Carla Rizzi as Town looked to end a run of defeats.

Kinmel Bay have been in good form despite losing last time out at home to leaders Flint, losing just once in their last eight games. It was the visitors who first tested a goalkeeper when Lucy Perry ran through before drawing a save before rebounding the ball over the bar from close range.

Denbigh’s first sight came after 13 minutes when a corner was partially cleared to Mali Thomas on the edge of the box but her effort was well dealt with.

After 25 minutes the deadlock was broken. A superb cross from the right was met by Chloe Scanlan who finished well past the goalkeeper.

Kinmel Bay were on top in the first half but couldn’t muster a second as they went into the break ahead.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town Ladies 0-1 Kinmel Bay Ladies

Denbigh applied pressure in the second half but in reality the game was lacking any real clear cut chances and both goalkeepers were kept relatively quiet.

However, with eighteen minutes to play it sprang back to life via substitute Bancroft. Having joined the action on 69 minutes it took her just three minutes to make an impact. Her corner returned to her on the left of the box before thumping the ball into the inside of the side netting to draw parity.

Suddenly Town looked dangerous, with Lowri Claybrook coming close with a volley five minutes before time that flashed just wide.

Deep into stoppage time the goal finally came. Purvis was played through and one-on-one she kept her composure to slot the ball home and hand a much-needed three points, and first win in just over a month.

Denbigh are next in action on Sunday when making the trip to Berriew.
