Town on top in friendly clash.

Denbigh Town made it two wins from two in their pre-season schedule with a solid 4-2 victory over The New Saints Development Squad at Park Hall.

Goals from Tom Weir, Nathan Brown, Morgan Thomas-Sadler, and Danny Clarke saw off the young Saints side who grabbed two themselves via a Owen Davies brace.

The game began at a frantic pace as the hosts took the lead within just 30 seconds of kick-off. A superb ball forward carved open the Denbigh back-line and Davies ran through to finish superbly.

Town responded quickly and had the ball in the back of the net after just three minutes following a scramble, but the referee chalked it off for a foul. Seconds later Denbigh came close only for both Paul Fleming and Thomas-Sadler's efforts to hit the woodwork before a shot was cleared off the line.

With just seven minutes played Denbigh almost found the net when Thomas-Sadler put the ball just wide following a corner from Brown, whilst Ryan Kershaw's effort from distance and Brown's speculative try were dealt with by the Saints' custodian.

Denbigh continued to pile on the pressure, goalkeeper Aaron Jones launched a pinpoint ball forward to Brown who cut inside to work the 'keeper whilst Thomas-Sadler found the side netting after a corner was swung in deep.

On 19 minutes Denbigh finally had the lead, as Ben Lockley made a tremendous run down the right and put in a low cross for Weir who managed to maneuver the ball into the back of the net - his second goal of the summer.

The hosts responded well hitting the woodwork three minutes later before Clarke cut in from the right and saw his rifled shot from range go inches over the bar.

As the half-hour mark came Town finally took the lead, Lockley again down the right channel switched play to Brown who smashed the ball into the bottom right.

In stoppage time in the first period, Denbigh added a third as Brown's corner was met by the head of Thomas-Sadler to double the Reds' advantage.

Half-Time: TNS Development 1-3 Denbigh Town

The second half had a more relaxed pace in comparison to the first but chances were still aplenty in a back-and-forth affair. Denbigh added their fourth as Keiron Roberts lofted a ball into the box from the left for Clarke to head home for his first goal of the summer.

Sixty seconds later TNS pulled it back as Davies once again got on the scoresheet with a smart finish. On 62 minutes the Saints once again hit the woodwork with 'keeper Jones only able to stand by and watch as the ball thudded the upright.

However, Jones denied a possible comeback with a brilliant save with 20 minutes to play before the game petered out.

Denbigh are next in action on Tuesday, July 11th against CPD Llanuwchllyn with kick-off at 19:30. The match will be played at Maes Tegid, Bala.
