Pre-Season run-out ends in late defeat

Denbigh tasted defeat for the first time this summer as goals from Nathan Brown and Danny Clarke (brace) wasn't enough as we fell to a 4-3 loss at Maes Tegid.

Mike Pritchard's hatrick and Joe Williams' goal secured victory for Llanuwchllyn as they bagged two goals in the final five minutes to turn the game on its head.

The game began with Denbigh on the front foot with the returning Matthew Worrall convinced he'd broken the deadlock on six minutes. The forward hit a shot from 35 yards and saw the ball hit the underside of the bar twice but the referee waved away claims that the ball had crossed the line.

Moments later Ryan Kershaw almost opened his pre-season account when he tried his luck from 30 yards and with the ball wobbling through the air it crashed against the crossbar.

However, just a minute later Denbigh broke the deadlock as Harry Lockley brought the ball down superbly in midfield before feeding Brown who after twisting and turning rifled his shot into the back of the net from the left.

The Town lead would last just nine minutes as Llanuwchllyn responded well to doing a goal down. Pritchard found room on the edge of the box before finishing well leaving goalkeeper Aaron Jones rooted.

Two minutes later saw Denbigh the side responding well to conceding as Clarke was put through on goal down the left channel before finishing well via the right post. He outdid himself just seconds later when the ball sat up for him 25-yards out as he volleyed an effort into the top corner for the pick of the goals not just on the night, but throughout the summer for Denbigh.

A fast-paced fifteen minutes was topped off with a fifth goal of the game when Jones made a great save before a clearance ricocheted off of Williams to reduce the deficit to just a goal.

The game slowed in its tempo from 25 minutes onwards with a few scrappy battles between players but nothing of note until just before the half when Ben Lockley's long throw was met at the back post by Worrall who couldn't find the net thanks to some solid defending. The resulting corner found Ben Lockley again who's header was steered wide.

Half-Time: CPD Llanuwchllyn 2-3 Denbigh Town

The second half saw less action than the first with the first sight of goal coming after the hour mark when the ball dropped to Sion Jones on the edge of the box but he could only drag his effort wide.

Llanuwchllyn almost leveled on 71 minutes when a corner came in and was headed over the bar from just a few yards out, whilst Denbigh almost made it four when Tom Weir's cross from the left nearly crept into the top corner but was halted by the upright.

Pritchard with ten minutes left to play was almost made to rue a huge chance when the ball was flashed across the face of goal but he put it over from just a few yards out. He didn't leave the pitch regretting that opportunity however, as he once again saw the ball come his way from close range and tapped home to equalise with five minutes to spare.

Llanuwchllyn and Pritchard weren't finished however, as he completed his hatrick following some slack defending that saw him stick the ball into the back of the net with ease two minutes before time to hand victory to the hosts.

Town are next in action on Saturday as we return to Central Park for the first time since May when we take on newly-promoted Cymru Premier side Colwyn Bay.
