- Stoppage time drama seals it for Town

Before this week Denbigh Town hadn’t scored a last-minute winner in over six years, now they’ve done it twice in six days.

Dan Parry-Jones’ 95th minute winner downed Mold Alexandra for our first home winner in injury time in almost nine years.

Nathan Brown and Matthew Worrall grabbed the first and second but were pulled back by a Jake Roberts brace before Parry-Jones’ first goal of the season sealed yet another last-minute winner for Town to make it three wins on the bounce in the JD Cymru North.

Dewi Llion went with an unchanged starting XI from the side that beat Gresford last weekend, whilst Jason Foulkes found a place on the bench alongside Kristian Pierce as the only switches.

The game began with Denbigh dominant and after just four minutes had their rewards. A sensational run down the right by Worrall saw him shift the ball across to Brown who side-footed a superb effort to beat goalkeeper Alex Swindell.

Brown - fresh off being announced as October’s Player of the Month - was rampant in the early stages testing Mold early with an effort that flew just over on 13 minutes, whilst moments later he had the ball in the back of the net after being released through the middle, but the flag was raised.

Once again on 22 minutes, Brown had a sight of goal after some excellent link-up play between him and Billy Holmes that lead to the in-form winger firing over.

Despite the pressure Mold weren’t out of it, and forced Aaron Jones in to an incredible save on 25 minutes when the ball dropped to Danny Warren eight yards out but Jones made a brilliant stop.

The chances kept flowing and two minutes later Worrall had a golden opportunity when one-one-one but couldn’t keep his composure, instead of sweeping the ball home he opted to chip Swindell who easily claimed.

Worrall shook his head in disbelief with 32 minutes gone when Brown flicked the ball over a defender and cut inside brilliantly before laying it to the Town forward, but his effort from close range was somehow saved.

Mold’s forays into the Town box were rare, but almost levelled before the break when a crowd of bodies following a corner poked the ball towards goal but Keiron Roberts cleared off the line.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 1-0 Mold Alexandra

With such a plethora of chances in the first half, Denbigh may have been forgiven for coming out for the second period a little anxious having not taken their opportunities, and that became a reality a minute into the second period.

Mold broke down the right before an unmarked and onrushing Roberts found himself on the ball with time and space to smash past Jones.

The visitors were almost ahead on 50 minutes when Roberts’ effort from the left of the box deflected off of Ben Lockley and drew Jones in to a massive save.

As the game settled neither side created much until the 63rd minute and allowed Worrall to redeem himself for the earlier missed chances. Sion Jones made great progress down the right channel before crossing, where Worrall met the ball with his head to nod Town back in front.

11 minutes later, however, Mold levelled once more. Sloppy work from Denbigh in midfield undid their hard work as the ball popped over from the right and Roberts was able to stab home from close range.

Into the closing stages, Craig Pritchard did well to draw a foul just on the edge of the box which Brown fired over before Joe Ormrod’s half volley flew just wide with a minute to play.

Into stoppage time and Mold were down to ten men when Alex Smith fouled a breaking Paul Fleming and referee James Walker gave him his marching orders. Walker was in the thick of it in stoppage time having waived away penalty claims seconds earlier for handball with Brown’s free-kick smashing into the wall.

As the clock ticked over to the 95th minute it needed just one moment, and it came via the head of Parry-Jones. The ball came in from the right by Worrall and he rose highest to thump his header into the back of the net and send Central Park wild.

The final whistle blew shortly after and Town claimed a well-deserved three points. They take a break now until November 17th when they travel to Prestatyn Town.
