10-man Denbigh Town left it late for the second successive match as Owen Davies again stepped up to secure at least a point.
Town, who had Nathan Brown sent off in the second half, trailed 2-1 after Jamie Hyne and Iwan Matthews’ goals surrounded that of Josh Lock.
But with seconds remaining and Denbigh staring at defeat, Davies lashed the ball home in stoppage time to secure just the second draw for Denbigh in 16 months.
Dewi Llion named one change to the side that beat Buckley two weeks ago as Kyle Cooper made his first start for Town, replacing Sion Jones. Meanwhile Jimmy McHarrie kept his place in goal for the injured Aaron Jones.
The opening ten minutes would pass by with little incident before bursting to life when Guilsfield came close via Williams, who somehow put the ball over the bar from just yards out from a Jake Cook cross.
Denbigh reponsded within a minute when Matthew Worrall ran through and lifted the ball over the keeper but just wide of the mark. He came even closer seconds later when Lock ran through the middle and struck, his effort deflected to Worrall who volleyed the ball against the post.
This began a flirtatious afternoon with the woodwork which in total was clattered four times, as Hyne cut in from the right and his low shot beat McHarrie but nailed the post. After both goalkeepers made smart saves Town had a trio of corners, with Guilsfield defending resolutely. The last of the trilogy was swept in by Brown and curled towards goal before rattling the crossbar on 24 minutes.
The scoring was opened on 32 minutes when a mistake from Dion Gibbins handed the ball to Hyne who ran through and slotted past McHarrie to give the visitors the lead.
Town pressed for a leveller in the final ten minutes of the half when Lock’s free-kick was pushed out by the keeper and Paul Fleming put the rebound in the side netting. Guilsfield should have doubled the lead on 41 minutes when Cooper allowed the ball over the top to find Hyne who attempted to round the keeper, but McHarrie made a superb stop.
Two minutes before the break Guilsfield hit the post again with an effort from the left, whilst Denbigh were denied when Lock forced the keeper into a save from the right before Gibbins’ volley was also handled well.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town 0-1 Guilsfield
Town knew they had to improve in the second half and within eight minutes they drew parity. Worrall was superb down the left and fed the ball in to Fleming, he nudged it on to Lock who turned excellently and thumped the ball into the top corner.
Guilsfield responded well and four minutes later found the post for the third time, Matthews’ volley thumped the post before Dan Parry-Jones make a brilliant block to deny the follow-up.
The game was anyone’s and some may have felt it would take a moment of brilliance to win it, and it almost came on the hour mark when Gibbins took flight from 40-yards that flew just over the bar.
With 67 minutes played the visitors regained the advantage when Matthews, Guilsfield’s top marksman this season, grabbed his 10th of the campaign when running through and sliding it home.
Six minutes later it went from bad to worse as Brown was sent off for allegedly catching an opponent with a flailing elbow. Despite this though, Town continued to put the pressure on and flirted with the visitors’ goal.
Kristian Pierce came on in stoppage time as he continues his return to full fitness, and it proved to be a masterstroke. The 30-year-old picked it up on the left after 93 minutes and crossed, it found Fleming who brought it down before another substitute, Owen Davies, smashed the ball home.
It extends Denbigh’s unbeaten run in the JD Cymru North to four games ahead of Tuesday night’s Denbighshire Derby with Prestatyn Town at Central Park.
