The Town started well and after four minutes Aaron Hassell was on the end of a Jake Eyre cross to put Denbigh in the lead 1-0.
This proved a false dawn with Porthmadog responding well and equalising on 12 minutes via Josh Davies and taking the lead on 18 minutes from Joe Williams. Porthmadog’s midfield and attack were soon well on top and with some excellent finishing, scored on 21minutes (Rob Evans) and 31 minutes (Josh Davies). Davies completed his hat trick on 33 minutes for Porthmadog to go in 5-1 up at half time.
A change of formation was needed by Denbigh and substitutes Matty Hughes and Craig Pritchard came on for Billy Holmes and Owen Davies.
Denbigh’s second half performance was much more encouraging and Alan Bull scored one of his trademark free kicks in the 54th minute and the Town had several chances to reduce the deficit over the next twenty minutes.
But on 82 minutes a strong challenge in the penalty area by Tony Davies on Porthmadog’s Julian Williams was deemed a foul by the referee and Josh Davies scored from the spot for his fourth goal of the game.
Undeterred, Denbigh battled on and Andrew Swarbrick headed home on 89 minutes and then Jake Eyre shot in from a tight angle on 95 minutes.
However it was all in vain as Porthmadog ran out 6-4 winners in a game of two halves. Porthmadog’s first half performance proved too strong for the Town and it was always going to be an up hill struggle in the second half.
Nevertheless Town finished the game the stronger team and must take this forward for the next home game against Buckley on Friday night – kick off 7.30pm
