- Reserves bag first three points of the campaign

Liam Nash’s Denbigh Town Reserves secured their first win of the league campaign with a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Holywell.

Goals from James Thomas and Harry Lea saw Town come from behind to beat the Wellmen who initially took the lead via Marc Davies.

The game began with the visitors in the driving seat and within seven minutes they had the lead after a superb bit of running from Joe Badeeb saw him find Marc Davies to thud the ball into the bottom right corner.

Denbigh struggled to settle in the early stages but eventually carved out a chance on 18 minutes when Thomas’ free-kick was swung in from deep before it fell to Matthew Blake whose goal-bound effort was blocked by Jack Pennington.

Eventually, Town found a leveller as Blake’s cross from the right was met by an unmarked Thomas to send the ball past goalkeeper Kieron Feenan with 26 minutes gone.

The game began to level out in terms of possession but Denbigh started to get on top and had their just rewards seconds before the break when Thomas yet again popped up, this time turning provider with a cross that met the head of Lea to put Denbigh in front.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town Reserves 2-1 Holywell Town Development

The second half began as it would go on throughout with Holywell chasing that all-important equaliser. The visitors dominated the ball and wouldn’t allow Denbigh out of their own half.

However, it took until 77 minutes for a real chance of note following a couple of near misses. Mark Winslade had an effort cannon off the crossbar before a follow up shot seconds later crashed off Matty Owen’s post.

The game appeared to really have sprung to life as Owen was called upon moments later to deny Winslade at close range, a match-winning save.

Town replied via substitute Gethin Rogers who made a sensational run to beat three defenders before his shot was saved well by Kieron Feenan.

As the visitors continued to press into stoppage time referee Aaron Gray blew for full-time and Denbigh had their first win of the campaign, and remain unbeaten in their opening three matches.
