- Town lose out in tight affair

Denbigh Town Reserves suffered a narrow midweek defeat to Llandudno on Tuesday as a heroic performance from Seasiders keeper Felix Domagala helped secure the win.

Goals from James Thomas and Rhys Lloyd weren’t enough as Denbigh fell to a loss via the boot of Jordan Hadaway, Jenson Gee and Jacob Guy.

The Reserves had a few new additions to the side that lost to Airbus 10 days ago as Jason Foulkes slotted into the midfield whilst goalkeeper Matthew Owen returned.

It took just three minutes for the first chance of the contest as some brilliant link-up play from Denbigh saw Thomas feed Foulkes with a sensational ball through the middle before laying it off to Danny Clarke who had a low effort stopped.

Despite good early pressure, it was Llandudno who took the lead when a corner was floated in and Town failed to clear their lines and Hadaway took the ball on the turn to poke past Owen.

Denbigh responded within a couple of minutes when more excellent play in the the middle of the park before unleashing Hansen who’s low drive was stopped well.

With half an hour gone the 105 supporters in the ground were stunned at how the game wasn’t level. Thomas broke through before his close-range effort was initially saved before his rebound slammed the post, somehow he managed to retake possession and once more tested the goalkeeper who turned the ball round for a corner.

In a half full of chances the game began to have the feel of an end-to-end encounter as Clarke this time down the right forced Domagala into a smart spot before Llandudno broke and Harry Montogmery somehow couldn’t find the target inside the box with the goal gaping.

As the first-half ticked over into stoppage time a cross from the left met Thomas who’s effort was handled in the box and a penalty awarded. Thomas duly dispatched the spot-kick with a low drive into the bottom right leaving the keeper clutching at air.

There was time for a chance each to close out the half when Levi Montgomery forced Owen to make a superb save before Town broke this time, with Lloyd with only the keeper to beat being denied by a fantastic save one on one.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town Reserves 1-1 Llandudno U23

Within two minutes of the re-start Llandudno had the lead, Town again failing to clear the ball from a set-piece and Guy was on hand to rifle the ball home.

Just after the hour mark Denbigh pulled back level when Foulkes made a brilliant advance down the left flank before laying it to Lloyd to smash home down the middle leaving Domagala helpless.

Just two minutes elapsed until the visitors put themselves back in front, when the ball dropped to Jenson Gee just inside the box before hitting a half-volley into the bottom corner.

As the game entered it’s final stages Town pressed for a third leveller. They were handed a lifeline with six remaining as substitute Aled Rees-Williams was seemingly through on goal before being dragged down by Finley Dobbins who was shown a second yellow card.

The best chance fell from a ball from the right when Josh Griffiths’ shot seemed destined for the back of the net before the goalkeeper made an incredible save to deny.

The referee blew for full-time and Denbigh suffered a second successive defeat in the FAW Reserve League North.

They’re next in action on November 4th in the FAW Reserve League North League Cup away to Saltney Town.
