Denbigh Town Reserves returned to winning ways in the FAW Reserve League North with a convincing win over Buckley.
A brace from Rhys Lloyd and Andy Thomas saw off bottom side Buckley with a Will Weaver strike late on merely a consolation and sees Town up to 4th, four points adrift of top spot.
Nash made seven changes to the side that lost to Llandudno last time out, as Jac Jones, Ryan Roberts, Lewis Devine, Owen Herbert, Josh Griffiths, Aled Rees-Williams and Andy Thomas all came into the side.
Denbigh began the game in full control as they made a number of forays into the Buckley half, and forced a lengthy series of corners that came to nought. Elliot Smith had a couple of half chances but was unable to steer the ball on goal in his search for his first goal for the club.
Despite the efforts of the Town forwards to break the deadlock it took 23 minutes until they had a shot on target, and that came from the penalty spot. A nice move led to Andy Thomas being brought down in the box before stepping up to drill it into the bottom left corner.
Two minutes later the lead was doubled, a poor goal kick fell to Lloyd who raced in on goal before poking the ball between the keepers’ legs at the near post.
Town kept pressing as Rees-Williams saw the ball fall to him outside the box but he couldn’t keep his effort from flying over. Herbert also saw a sight of goal after a nice corner routine, as the 17-year old forced the goalkeeper into a smart save.
Seven minutes before the break Denbigh finally had their third as Rees-Williams’ shot was fumbled and Lloyd was on hand to tap home with a real strikers’ instinct.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town Reserves 3-0 Buckley Town Reserves
The second half started with the visitors improved but unable to repel the fourth goal. Half-Time substitute Tommy Hughes did well to win the ball on the left before feeding it to Lloyd who in turn found Thomas who calmly thumped the ball into the back of the net.
On a pitch that’s taken a real test this week on the back of two internationals the quality of football dropped, the game seemingly put to bed early. Buckley did however pull one back via Weaver who calmly slotted home one-on-one which Town will rue missing out on a clean sheet.
A few wayward efforts from each side didn’t faze either custodian and in the end Town claimed three points following back-to-back defeats in October.
The Reserves are next in action on Saturday when they take on Ruthin Town Reserves in the return fixture of the Vale of Clwyd derby.
