- Herbert hatrick in barnstorming thriller

Denbigh Town Reserves made it two wins on the spin this weekend with a nine-goal thriller at Deeside Stadium.

Town came from behind in the first half before a staggering six goals in twelve minutes in the second saw the match decided.

Liam Nash named an unchanged Starting XI from the side that won at Llandudno last weekend, whilst Rhys Lloyd returned from suspension to make the bench along with Aled Rees-Williams.

Despite Buckley’s poor start to the campaign that saw them lose ten league matches, they were the side to break the deadlock. Will Weaver added to the goal he scored at Central Park for the Bucks earlier this term with a smart finish on 13 minutes.

Kristian Pierce recently returned to the pitch and opened his account for the Reserves six days previous, and he added his second on the half-hour mark as Owen Herbert fed the experienced forward to level.

It looked as if the sides would go into the break at a goal apiece but Matthew Blake had something to say about that. Josh Griffiths played him in and Blake nudged the visitors ahead seconds before the whistle.

Now, for the chaos. Six minutes into the half and Town extended the lead via Herbert who had his first of the afternoon, and he didn’t wait around long, just three minutes, to get his second.

However, moments later Buckley fired themselves back in it with two goals in as many minutes and four in the space of six, as Niall Griffiths and Owen Jones netted to make it 3-4.

Any hopes of a miraculous fightback were quickly quashed by Town and in particular Herbert, who completed his hatrick just after the hour mark. Lloyd appeared off the bench and added number six less than a minute later.

Six second-half goals all within twelve minutes, both sides could be forgiven for a quieter half as neither side added to the scoreline, and let’s be frank, any more would have been ridiculous.

Town move up to third in the FAW Reserve League North, seven points adrift of top side TNS. Nash’s side are next in action on February 17th in the FAW Reserve League North Cup Quarter-Final away at Nantlle Vale.

Denbigh Town Reserves: Owen, Devine, Smith, Williams, Gruf Rogers, Geth Rogers, Blake, Griffiths, Herbert, Pierce, Thomas

Subs: Roberts, James, Hughes, Rees-Williams, Lloyd
