Denbigh Town Reserves were resoundingly beaten on Saturday as title-rivals Connah’s Quay Nomads put Town to the sword.
Rhys Lloyd netted for Denbigh but it wasn’t enough as a strong start for the visitors continued through to put pressure on top spot.
Denbigh named a strong side as Morgan Thomas-Sadler continued his recovery with another start whilst Kristian Pierce returned to the XI.
The visitors began as they looked to go on by getting themselves ahead early, Caleb Hughes netting an early brace with strikes on eight and 14 minutes.
Despite the early setback Town didn’t waver and continued to look for a goal to get themselves back into the game, but couldn’t do so before the break.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town Reserves 0-2 Connah’s Quay Nomads U21
After a number of changes by manager Liam Nash in the early stages of the second half, Town found themselves a breakthrough. Substitute Ben Senior, who last week came off the bench to net a leveller against Ruthin, provided the assist for top scorer Rhys Lloyd to halve the deficit.
Encouraged by the goal, Town knew it was a big last twenty minutes but the strong Nomads outfit eventually showed their class once more. Six minutes after conceding the visitors restored the two-goal advantage as Hughes completed his hatrick before Shayan Dehy extended the lead.
With seven minutes to play the Nomads were awarded a penalty and Rafael Endemano stepped up to convert and secure the points.
