Denbigh Town Reserves 7-0 St Asaph Reserves

Central Park was treated to a host of goals from a scintillating display of football from a strong Reserve team on a cold Tuesday night.

Before the kick off there was a minutes silence in respect and memory of the Club's groundsman Derek Hughes who had sadly passed away the day before.

Reserves Manager Nick Hailes had a full squad to pick from against a young spirited St Asaph team. A win would take the Reserves top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Reserves League and from the start they went about their task in determined fashion.

It was 15 minutes before they took the lead with left back Billy Holmes (pictured) picking the ball up on the half way line and going on one of his mazy runs, jinxing past defenders into the penalty area and coolly slotting the ball under the Saints' keeper Mike Crossley

Denbigh continued to put pressure on the St Asaph goal and the second goal came courtesy of a penalty on 28 minutes. Owen Heath found space on the right wing just inside the penalty area and shot. His first shot was blocked and fell back to him and he shot a second time only for St Asaph defender Chris Smith to block his attempt with his arm. Andy Thomas stepped up to fire home the penalty

Thomas picked up his second of the night on 42 minutes after he hassled a defender in the penalty area, won the ball and was able to slide the ball into the corner of the net .

Then on the stroke of half time young Josh Jones let fly a fierce left foot shot from the edge of the box which flew into the back of the goal to give Denbigh a commanding 4-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Denbigh pay some great football and they were rewarded with their fifth on 55 minutes. Josh Jones sent in a pin point cross to the head of Andy Thomas who headed in from close range for his hat trick. Thomas is in a rich vein of goalscoring form and is the League's top scorer.

Nick Hailes made two substitutions on 65 minutes with Sion Davies and Jack James coming on for Mathew Pendleton and Sam Tate. Davies, a striker, was making his debut for Denbigh following his recent transfer from Llannefydd and it took him just two minutes to get on the score sheet with a fine finish to make it 6-0 .

It was Davies again on the 85th minute heading home from close range to give Denbigh their seventh of the night and finish off an excellent display from Nick Hailes' men. Hailes commented afterwards "What a performance from the lads , brilliant all over the pitch to go top of the league. We kick on from here".
