Ollie Williams' view on tomorrow's big match

After a long hard season that has consisted of a 43 matches so far, Denbigh Town will draw the curtain on a fantastic campaign and the chance at a famous double.

The Reds journey to mid-Wales to face Bow Street in the Lock Stock Ardal Northern League Cup Final on Saturday with only one able to hoist the trophy in Caersws.

Details:

Denbigh Town v Bow Street
Kick-Off: 14:30
Location: Recreation Ground, Caersws
Competition: Ardal Northern League Cup Final
Admission: £3 (Adults), £1 (Concessions) Free (Under 5s)

Form

Denbigh come into the game on the back of one of their greatest days. Last weekend’s trip to Wrexham saw Town come home with the league title following a 2-0 victory over Rhostyllen. Goals from Matthew Worrall and Dan Parry-Jones secured the silverware and promotion to the JD Cymru North next term.

In the League Cup, Denbigh have seen off four sides in the competition this season in matches which have all been played at Central Park. They began back in November with a Max Peate own goal and Nathan Brown strike seeing off Llay before a mouth-watering tie with Bangor was drawn in early December. Captain Paul Fleming more than played his part hitting a trio of goals to see off the Citizens 3-1.

Llanfair United followed in March with the Powys side hit for six via efforts from Jason Foulkes (2), Jake Walker (2), Sam Haddon and Brown. The Semi-Final took place in the blistering heat in Denbigh last month as Builth Wells made their way up north, but returned disappointed following Walker, Worrall (2), Brown and Ollie Hansen’s goals in a 5-1 success.

Bow Street began their campaign in the competition with an impressive 3-1 win over Ardal North East runners-up Cefn Albion in the first round before knocking out Rhos Aelwyd 2-0 on their travels. Next they took on Flint Mountain where, after a 1-1 draw they overcame the Flintshire opponents via penalties.

Llangefni experienced the same fate in the Semi-Final after a 2-2 draw. Llangefni were seconds away from booking their place in the showpiece before the Magpies were awarded a penalty in stoppage time, duly dispatched by Rhydian Davies and following the shoot-out made it to the final.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting between the two sides. Denbigh’s last cup final came at the end of April, losing in the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy against Trethomas Bluebirds. Denbigh’s last cup final victory came in 2014 securing the Mawddach Cup, complimenting the league title won that year.

Bow Street’s last cup final came in 2018 when they overcame Welshpool to win the Mid-Wales League Cup.

Notable Landmarks

This weekend could see goalkeeper Aaron Jones make his 50th Denbigh appearance in all competitions. The former Everton youngster has kept an impressive 17 clean sheets during that time.

Nathan Brown is one goal away from 30 for the season as he sits on 29 for the campaign in all competitions, whilst Matthew Worrall has three goals in three games in cup ties this term. Denbigh’s top goal scorer in cup competitions this season is Jake Walker who has a staggering 14 goals in 15 games.

The Ardal Northern League Cup golden boot is also up for grabs, with three the magic number at the moment. Seven players sit on three goals in the competition, three of which are currently with Denbigh. Paul Fleming, Nathan Brown and Jake Walker could all claim the honour, whilst Bow Street’s Sion Ewart also sits on a trio of goals.

The Opposition

Bow Street are located just outside Aberystwyth and were formed in 1920 and have been full active since the 1970s. The Magpies have played in the Aberystwyth & District League until 2007 when they began to compete at a higher level.

The club has won a number of honours within mid-Wales football including the League Cup in 2018 and won the Aberystwyth & District league title on seven occasions. Winning the Ardal Northern League Cup would rank as the club’s highest honour. Bow Street compete in the Ardal North East division, the sister league of the Ardal North West. They finished 3rd behind champions Caersws and play-off side Cefn Albion.

Keep Up

The match kicks off at 14:30 at Caersws’ Recreation Ground but if you can’t make it you can keep up via Denbigh Town social media and the Cymru Football App.
