Denbigh Town First team and Reserves players , staff and committee members held their annual awards night last night at The Plas Piggot with Life President 'Popsi' Griffith presenting the awards.
Although the evening was essentially for the men's senior sides we simply could not ignore Ellen Lawson who became a first last night as the first female to win 'Clubman of The Year' [ Perhaps it should be Clubperson of The Year !] The Denbigh Ladies team had a very difficult start to the season with the manager and coach and some top players leaving the club. It was a brave decision by Ellen to stick her head above the parapet and agree to take the reins and what a fantastic job she has done. Of course the results have not gone our way but Ellen has increased the squad and has had ever increasing numbers train week in and week out such is her infectious enthusiasm for the game. As well as managing the senior ladies side she has been overlooking the girls section assisting some of the first team squad on their way to becoming coaches themselves. With Ellen at the helm their continues to be somewhere in the town where girls can take part in 'the beautiful game.' Brilliant stuff Ell !
