New Denbigh team beginning to come together

24 yr old Sam Downey signs the dotted line for The Reds after moving from Rhyl.

An excellent midfielder who is serious about his football, Sam is originally from the Lincoln area where played for Lincoln Academy before moving on to play for a number of different sides. He has played for North Ferriby Utd, Stamford AFC, Corby Town in the Conference North, Spalding Utd in the Evo Stik league and Rhyl last season.

When he was younger , around 20yrs of age he went to play in Sweden turning out for first division side Gallivare Malmbergets FF before moving to Iceland to play for Leiknir Reykavik !

For a young man he has crammed in a lot of experience and our Matty Jones is very pleased to have him with Denbigh Town next season telling us " We are delighted to have signed a player of Sam's quality. Having worked with him last year I know exactly what he can bring to the squad and to the club as a whole. A player with tremendous attitude and ability. A signing like this shows our intent and, yes, Dewi and I are very happy. "

We had a quick chat with Sam to welcome him to the club and wondered if it took a lot of persuasion to sign for Denbigh and he told us " I will be honest it is down to Matty. I like the guy and have a lot of respect for him. He knows what he is doing and deserves the chance he has at Denbigh. He has explained what he is trying to do and I am happy to be part of it."

Welcome to Denbigh Town Sam
