Cover for Craig Vernon makes debut at Rhyl

Those of you at Rhyl last night could not have failed to notice that Denbigh Town fielded a new player between the sticks.

We needed an experienced reliable goalkeeper to provide cover for Craig Vernon and 27 yr old Gwydion Owen showed that he is just that when he played for Denbigh last night in the Huws Gray cup tie at Corbett Sports Stadium.

Gwydion came through the Conwy & Llandudno youth systems and spent trial periods with Man City & Blackburn as a youngster. Whilst at Aberystwyth University he played alongside Denbigh's Rhys Llwyd and got to know Dewi Llion. After finishing university he spent two years with Llanrwst Utd winning the Mawddach Cup before moving on to Llandudno Junction and gaining promotion to the Huws Gray (with Joel Hewitt)

Gwydion has recently taken time off football to concentrate on work commitments as he often works weekends but could not resist signing for Denbigh after receiving a call from Dewi Llion only last week.

He said" From previously knowing Dewi and Pete Lloyd, I was grateful of the opportunity and determined to give it a go (even though I hadn’t kicked a ball for 6 months) I enjoyed my debut with a great bunch of lads, made easier and better with the win. Good team spirit and togetherness. Hoping to kick-on now and be involved when needed and available. "

Dewi Llion told us " We are really pleased to welcome new signing Gwydion Owen to the club and he has come in providing competition for Craig Vernon in goal. He has already had a positive impact after his debut in goal with our win in the Huws Gray Cup against Rhyl. He is a good player and has the experience and attitude to integrate within the group of players we have here."

Welcome to Denbigh Town Gwydion and well done last night !
