Ollie Williams13 Jul 2023 - 23:12

Town return to Central Park for friendly fixture

After a two-month hiatus Denbigh Town return to Central Park as we host newly-promoted Cymru Premier side Colwyn Bay.

Denbigh Town v Colwyn Bay
Date: 15/07/2023
Kick-Off: 14:00
Location: Central Park, Denbigh
Competition: Pre-Season Friendly

Adults: £4
Concessions/U16s: £2

Form

Denbigh have already been in action three times this summer picking up two victories but losing out last time out. Danny Clarke grabbed a sensational brace taking his tally to three for the summer whilst Nathan Brown was also on the scoresheet as Town fell to a 4-3 loss away to CPD Llanuwchllyn. Beforehand we saw victories over St Asaph (3-0) in the summer opener before a 4-2 victory over TNS Development.

Colwyn Bay are preparing for life in the Welsh top flight having kicked-off the summer with a 1-1 draw with Flint Mountain, with new-signing Nick Rushton on the scoresheet. Following this weekend’s match, they will face Prestatyn Town, Nantwich Town, Vauxhall Motors, and Liverpool U21 before kicking off their season at home to Caernarfon.

The Opposition

Colwyn Bay come into the 2023/24 campaign on the back of a superb promotion-winning season. Last term they took the JD Cymru North title beating Holywell to promotion and will compete in the Cymru Premier. They re-joined the Welsh system in 2019 after 35 years in England and will now look to challenge at the top end of the top flight having won both the tier two title and the Welsh Blood Services League Cup.

Head-to-Head

Games between Denbigh and Colwyn Bay have been a real rarity in a competitive sense. However, clubs from the two areas have competed on a number of occasions in years gone by. Colwyn Bay are a significant club in Denbigh’s history when the earliest recorded honour was picked up by Town, beating Colwyn Bay over three matches to lift the St Asaph Challenge Cup all the way back in March and April 1891. The first competitive league game between the two sides came in the North Wales Coast League in November 1907.
