Denbigh head into this one on the back of a sensational 6-2 victory over Llanidloes Town in the JD Cymru North. It marked the second successive home match in which Town scored six goals with Nathan Brown (brace), Josh Lock (brace), Tom Weir and Paul Fleming all hitting the target against the Daffs. It marked the sixth win in Denbigh’s last seven matches in all competitions.
Town reached the Second Round with a 4-2 victory over a spirited Cerrigydrudion.
Flint enter the competition in the Second Round having played in the Cymru Premier last term. The Silkmen are unbeaten in 90 minutes this season with their only defeat coming via penalties in the Nathaniel MG Cup against Prestatyn.
They have picked up 20 of a possible 24 points this season in the league and remain unbeaten in their first eight games. Last time out they overcame Airbus 1-0 via a Joe Williams goal.
Head-to-Head
You don’t need to look far back for our last match with Flint, which came on the opening day of the league campaign in August. In a close encounter, Flint came out on top 2-1 with Tom Weir netting an equaliser for Town in the first half.
The first recorded match in Denbigh history came against a Flint-based side in October 1880, with Denbigh running out 2-0 victors. During an incident-packed decade or so for Denbigh, one friendly in 1891 saw Flint record a 2-0 victory, whilst Denbigh had a goal disallowed due to the referee not seeing it!
The first competitive game between the two sides came on New Year’s Eve of 1892, with a 1-1 draw in the Soames Charity Cup before Flint advanced in the replay.
Stat Pack
Paul Fleming could make his 100th Denbigh appearance in all competitions this weekend.
Sion Jones’ next appearance will be his 126th extending his run as the highest appearance holder of the current Denbigh playing squad (not including player/coaches). He takes over from Jake Walker who departed this week having played 146 games.
