Denbigh Town begin their journey in the WBS League Cup with a trip to Gresford Athletic.

Northern Semi-Finalists last season, Dewi Llion’s side will look to go one better this term starting at the Rock.

Form

Denbigh come into the game on the back of a disappointing 4-2 loss away at Penrhyncoch. Town found themselves 3-0 down at the break at Cae Baker before Nathan Brown netted twice for a possible comeback. However, a late fourth for the home side saw Denbigh’s win streak come to an abrupt end. Three days before Town took on our upcoming opponents in the JD Cymru North, with Brown hitting a hatrick along with strikes from Owen Davies and Paul Fleming in a 5-1 success.

Gresford were also in action on Monday taking on league leaders Airbus UK Broughton at the Rock. The Wingmakers ran out 3-0 winners to bring back-to-back losses for the Colliers, who have won once in seven games in all competitions this season.

Head-to-Head

Of course, the last time we met came just eight days ago at Central Park whilst our last trip to the Rock came in October 2023 where Tom Weir’s stoppage-time strike sealed three points for Denbigh. Our last meeting in cup competition came in July 2022 when Town were in the third tier, as Gresford edged a close game 1-0. Our last cup clash away to Gresford came at Clappers Lane in the First Round of the Welsh Cup in October 2016, with Athletic winning 3-0.
