Denbigh Town v Llanelli Town
Date: 15/02/2025
Kick-Off: 14:00
Location: Central Park
Competition: JD Welsh Cup Quarter-Final
Form
Denbigh come into this one on the back of three matches unbeaten in the JD Cymru North. Last time out Dewi Llion’s side were denied three points away at Llandudno with two late goals for the hosts, despite two sensational strikes in the first half from Nathan Brown. Beforehand Town had made it back-to-back wins with the 3-0 thumping of Penrhyncoch and a late winner in a 3-2 win over Guilsfield.
Llanelli come into the game having not tasted defeat since October. Currently sat top of the JD Cymru South and on course for potential top flight football next season, they recorded an important win last time out. They took on Penrhiwceiber Rangers away from home last weekend where Liam Eason’s stoppage time penalty earned a huge three points. It came after earning a point against title rivals Trethomas Bluebirds a week previous.
Head-to-Head
This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides. The last time Denbigh faced South Wales opposition was in April 2023 in the FAW Amateur Trophy Final against the aforementioned Trethomas. The last win against a side from the south came in March 2023 in the Semi-Final of the same competition, beating Bridgend Street 8-1.
The Journey So Far
Denbigh reached this stage with a common theme, every side drawn has been a ‘Llan’, We began the journey with a 4-2 win over Llangefni at Central Park before edging out Llanrwst on the road with a 3-0 success. In the last round Town dismantled Llanuwchllyn at home in a 7-1 victory.
Llanelli began their run with a win over Clwb Cymric before beating Pill AFC in the next round. Their true test came away at Cymru Premier side Haverfordwest County where an Ethan Cann double secured a famous win and their first Quarter-Final in 13 years.
Stat Pack
Denbigh are looking to maintain an unbeaten run of four or more games for the second time this season.
This will be the furthest an opposition side has travelled to Central Park since Rockspur Fords in November 2022, when they made the journey from Swansea in the Amateur Trophy.
Denbigh will be looking to reach the Semi-Final of the JD Welsh Cup for the first time. Our best national competition performance at this level came when reaching the Final of the Nathaniel MG Cup in 2015/16.
Denbigh are looking for their first-ever win over a top two-tier (Cymru Premier or South) South Walian side.
