PREVIEW | Denbigh Town v Ruthin Town

- The Vale of Clwyd Derby Awaits

The first fixture looked for on the calendar is here as a Clwydian battle begins on Friday night as Denbigh play host to old rivals Ruthin Town.

With Town looking to maintain their good start in the JD Cymru North and Ruthin hoping to kickstart their campaign with a derby win, there’s plenty to play for this weekend.

Denbigh Town v Ruthin Town
Date: 24/10/2025
Kick-Off: 19:45
Location: Central Park
Competition: JD Cymru North

Form

Town were without a game last weekend following our exit from the JD Welsh Cup, meaning Dewi Llion’s side have had to wait 13 days to put right their 2-1 loss away at Guilsfield last time out. Scott McHarrie found the net on 18 minutes before the hosts turned the game on it’s head to take the points. Town’s last win came at Central Park in a Denbighshire Derby with Rhyl, as Nathan Brown’s brace overturned a one-goal deficit.

Ruthin, much like Denbigh, were also without a game last weekend but will be boosted by their first win in 90 minutes since August last time out. They journeyed to Holyhead where despite going a goal down on seven minutes turned things round with a trio of first half goals from Jamie Nash, Joel Giblin and Dave Forbes. It followed on from a draw with Guilsfield and defeat at the end of September to Flint Mountain.

Head to Head

Last season we faced off twice with both games ending in the points being shared. Our last meeting came at Bala’s Maes Tegid - Ruthin’s temporary home for the campaign - where Llyr Morris netted within a minute for the lead. However, a superb Danny Clarke cross was met by Owen Davies to level things late on. At Central Park on Boxing Day, Town had a two goal lead via Sam Duffy and Nathan Brown cancelled out late by Morris and Josh Evans in stoppage time.

Stat Pack

This will be the 88th competitive Vale of Clwyd Derby with the first taking place in the Welsh Cup in 1882.

Nathan Brown could make his 125th Denbigh Town appearance on Friday.

Matthew Worrall needs three more goals for his 50th for the club.
