- Town in cup action with a return to Flint

Denbigh Town return to cup action this weekend with a second trip to Flint of the campaign in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup.

It'll be the third meeting between the two sides and just the second time Town have played in the competition as both sides look for a way through to Round Three.

Flint Town United v Denbigh Town
Date: 25/11/2023
Kick-Off: 14:30
Location: Essity Stadium, Flint
Competition: Welsh Blood Service League Cup (Round Two)

Form

Denbigh reached this round with a stunning 6-2 victory at Buckley Town in the First Round. Josh Lock bagged a hatrick on his first start for the club whilst Tom Weir netted a brace and Olly Hansen netted.

In recent weeks, Town come into this one on the back of a 3-0 Denbighshire Derby win over Prestatyn Town with goals from Matthew Worrall (brace) and Ryan Kershaw. It secured three wins on the spin after last minute winners against both Mold Alexandra and Gresford Athletic in November.

Flint enter the competition at the Second Round stage having competed in the JD Cymru Premier last term. Back in October Denbigh shattered the record for most goals in a match in the JD Cymru North in a 6-5 win over Buckley, that record lasted less than two months. Flint faced Llanidloes at the Essity Stadium winning the game a whopping 9-4.

They remain unbeaten in the league whilst they remain in the JD Welsh Cup after overcoming Bangor 1876 on penalties two weeks ago.

Head-to-Head

It's played two lost two against Flint so far for Denbigh. We faced off in the JD Welsh Cup in October with the Silkmen coming out on top at Central Park, whilst we opened the season in Flintshire with a narrow 2-1 loss.

The first recorded match in Denbigh history came against a Flint-based side in October 1880, with Denbigh running out 2-0 victors. During an incident-packed decade or so for Denbigh, one friendly in 1891 saw Flint record a 2-0 victory, whilst Denbigh had a goal disallowed due to the referee not seeing it!

The first competitive game between the two sides came on New Year’s Eve of 1892, with a 1-1 draw in the Soames Charity Cup before Flint advanced in the replay.

Stat Pack

Danny Clarke could make his 25th appearance in Cup competitions this weekend.

Denbigh are looking to end a winless run against Flint dating back to 2017 (Six years, two months).

It's been over 15 years since Denbigh last lost to the same opponent three times in a season. That last time came in April 2008 losing the third of four matches against Bala Town in 2007/08.
