Following three months away from competitive action Denbigh Town return to the pitch with the highs and lows of 2024/25 beginning on Friday.

Town travel to newly promoted Llay Welfare in the First Round of the Nathaniel MG Cup looking for success on the national stage.

Form

Denbigh come into this one on the back of four pre-season tests. It ended on Tuesday night with a clash with a TNS XI at Park Hall. A brace from Nathan Brown as well as strikes from Iwan Roberts, Owen Davies and Paris Gray secured a 5-3 win on the road. It followed on from victory over Llanuwchllyn, a draw at Connah’s Quay and loss to Holyhead.

Llay are preparing for life in the JD Cymru North following their playoff promotion to the division last term. They like Denbigh have played out four pre-season matches winning all of them, most recently a 3-1 win over Ashville. Other victories came over Llanefydd, TNS Development and Flint Town United.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first meeting of the two sides since April 2023. Town went to Llay with a 19-game unbeaten run but it came to an end that night with a 4-2 win for the Welfare. Our last game at Central Park ended with a 4-0 Town win in March of the same year. This season the two sides will meet at Tier Two level for the first time.

Stat Pack

Dan Parry-Jones could make his 75th appearance in all competitions for the club on Friday.

Up to six players could make their debut for the club at Llay.

Denbigh are looking for their first win away at Llay since the 1970s.
