Prestatyn Town v Denbigh Town
Date: 06/08/2024
Kick-Off: 19:45
Location: Bastion Gardens
Competition: JD Cymru North

Form

Denbigh Town come into this one on the back of two defeats and will be keen to set the record straight. Last time out Town suffered a horrific 7-0 loss to Airbus UK Broughton in the worst opening day loss in 114 years. Beforehand, we travelled to Llay Miners Welfare in the Nathaniel MG Cup, exiting the competition in a 3-1 loss.

Prestatyn have also struggled early doors with two defeats in two. Their opening day didn’t go much better than Denbigh’s as they like us travelled to Flintshire and were on the end of a hiding. They met with Holywell Town losing 6-0 in a disappointing display. A week previous they travelled to Buckley Town before being knocked out following a 5-1 thumping.

Head-to-Head

Last season Town did the double over Prestatyn with victories at both Bastion Gardens and Central Park. Our last meeting in Prestatyn finished with a 3-1 victory for Town. The last meeting between the sides was in February with a 4-3 win.

The first recorded meeting of Denbigh facing a Prestatyn side came in September 1905 in the North Wales Coast Junior League Division Two, with the two teams playing out a 3-3 draw at Denbigh’s old home ground, Graig Road. The first trip to Prestatyn came a month later in a North Wales Junior Cup replay after an initial draw, which the home side won 3-2. Our first league match at Prestatyn came on the final day of the campaign in March 1906, drawing 1-1.

The clubs wouldn’t meet again formally until the late 1940s in the Dyserth League and wouldn’t regularly clash until 1983/84 in the Clwyd Premier. Denbigh beat the Seasiders to the Welsh Alliance title in 1995/96 and our first meeting in the Cymru Alliance/North came in 2007.

Stat Pack

Denbigh Town are looking for three straight victories over Prestatyn for the first time since 2003.

Billy Holmes is one appearance away from 147 games in all competitions for the club, the number of games current squad leading appearance maker Sion Jones is on.
