Denbigh Town high on the back of a cup victory on Saturday head to the coast on Tuesday night with a clash against Prestatyn Town.
Dewi Llion’s side will now look to turn their attentions to getting back to winning ways in the JD Cymru North.
Prestatyn Town v Denbigh Town
Date: 17/12/2024
Kick-Off: 19:45
Location: Bastion Gardens
Competition: JD Cymru North
Form
Denbigh come into this one on the back of a magnificent seven on Saturday. In front of a bumper 400+ crowd, Denbigh overcame Llanuwchllyn to reach the Quarter-Final of the JD Welsh Cup for the first time ever. Hatricks from both Owen Davies and Nathan Brown secured the win along with a late penalty from Iwan Roberts. In the league however, Town are without a win in their last three games following defeats to Llay, Airbus and Guilsfield.
Prestatyn are currently sat bottom of the JD Cymru North and have lost nine games on the bounce. The run, dating back to the beginning of September, has been tough with the Seasiders losing 6-2 last time out to Gresford Athletic. They came close to a point in a 3-2 loss at Flint Mountain previously. Their two wins this season came over Bangor 1876 and Llay.
Head-to-Head
Last season Town did the double over Prestatyn with victories at both Bastion Gardens and Central Park. Our last meeting in Prestatyn finished with a 3-1 victory for Town. The last meeting between the sides was in February with a 4-3 win.
The first recorded meeting of Denbigh facing a Prestatyn side came in September 1905 in the North Wales Coast Junior League Division Two, with the two teams playing out a 3-3 draw at Denbigh’s old home ground, Graig Road. The first trip to Prestatyn came a month later in a North Wales Junior Cup replay after an initial draw, which the home side won 3-2. Our first league match at Prestatyn came on the final day of the campaign in March 1906, drawing 1-1.
The clubs wouldn’t meet again formally until the late 1940s in the Dyserth League and wouldn’t regularly clash until 1983/84 in the Clwyd Premier. Denbigh beat the Seasiders to the Welsh Alliance title in 1995/96 and our first meeting in the Cymru Alliance/North came in 2007.
Stat Pack
A goal from one of Sion Jones, Keiron Roberts, Max Cooke, Calum Butler, Alfie Vaughan, Mackenzie Stark, Morgan Fricker, Gabriel Hinchcliffe, Serhad Kanli or even Aaron Jones or Luke Wilmot, would be the 150th different goal scorer for Denbigh in the second tier. There have been 149 different scorers so far.
Denbigh Town are looking for three straight victories over Prestatyn for the first time since 2003.
Denbigh are looking for their first league away win since mid-October, where they beat Bangor 3-4.
Denbigh are looking to avoid four league defeats on the spin for the first time since April 2019.
