Rhyl 1879 v Denbigh Town
Date: 02/08/2025
Kick-Off: 14:00
Location: Belle Vue
Competition: Nathaniel MG Cup (Second Round)

Form

Town have begun the campaign with two wins from two for the first time since August 2019. A trio of goals from Matthew Worrall, Ben Lockley and Nathan Brown saw Town come from behind to beat Flint Mountain in the First Round of the Nathaniel MG Cup. Last week our JD Cymru North campaign got started as we hosted Caersws in Bala. Brown opened the scoring before the visitors levelled. Two goals from Dan Flanders and Matthew Worrall nudged Denbigh two ahead before finishing a 3-2 victory.

Rhyl’s promotion sees them play in the second tier for the first time since reforming in 2020. They well with a 2-1 win over Caersws. Dylan Proctor opened the scoring on 52 minutes before Caersws found a leveller less than two minutes later. With three minutes to play former Denbigh skipper Paul Fleming found the winner. A week later they faced fellow promoted side Brickfield Rangers, drawing 0-0.

Head to Head

The two clubs have met twice since the current iteration of Rhyl formed with both games coming in the Lock Stock Ardal North West. The first game in November 2022 with Nathan Brown and Jake Walker netting for a turnaround 2-1 win. At Belle Vue, goals from Jason Foulkes, Craig Pritchard, Paul Fleming and Jake Walker secured an emphatic 4-0 win on route to the league title.

Stat Pack

Cameron Darling and Brad Barnes could make their debuts for the club this weekend.

Tom Weir could make his 25th appearance for the club on Saturday.
