PREVIEW | Ruthin Town v Denbigh Town

Ollie Beech21 Feb - 16:03

- On the Road for the Vale of Clwyd Derby

The Vale of Clwyd Derby heads out of Denbighshire for the first time this weekend as Denbigh travel to Ruthin’s temporary home, Maes Tegid.

After a drama-fueled afternoon on Boxing Day, this weekend could shape the season for both sides as we enter the final stretch.

Ruthin Town v Denbigh Town
Date: 22/02/2025
Kick-Off: 14:00
Location: Maes Tegid (Bala)
Competition: JD Cymru North

Form

Denbigh’s good form took a hit in the last seven days with back-to-back defeats. Town were last in action on Tuesday night for the rearranged clash between Town and Flint Mountain, with the visitors running out 2-0 winners. Three days beforehand the side played their first JD Welsh Cup Quarter-Final where a stoppage-time winner saw Denbigh exit the competition.

Ruthin meanwhile find themselves in a relegation battle, three points adrift of safety and having played twice more than Caersws who sit in the final safe spot. Without a win in over a month, Ruthin know it’s now or never in a key clash this weekend. They last faced Prestatyn away from home two weeks previous in a genuine six-pointer but lost out 1-0 at Bastion Gardens. It followed on from a draw with Flint Mountain and a Cymru North loss to Llandudno. They’ve taken five points from their last possible 33, but one of those did come away at Denbigh.

Head-to-Head

The last meeting between us came on Boxing Day in a dramatic end at Central Park. Goals from Sam Duffy and Nathan Brown gave Town a two-goal advantage before Llyr Morris pulled one back and Josh Evans netted a stoppage-time equaliser. Our last meeting away at Ruthin came at the Memorial Playing Fields on New Year’s Day 2024 where Ruthin won 4-0.

This will be the 87th meeting between the two sides.

Stat Pack

Denbigh are looking for their first away win over Ruthin in more than 27 years. The last came in September 1997 where Jason Jones and Derry Morris scored for Denbigh in a 2-0 win. Town will have to wait a little while longer to get their first win at the Memorial Playing Fields, with tomorrow’s game at Bala’s Maes Tegid.

Nathan Brown requires one more goal to become the third-highest scorer in the second tier for Denbigh outright, and two more for his 50th league goal.
