Chloe Davies, Denbigh Town's Sports Therapist

Before the Holyhead game we persuaded Chloe Davies to put down her First Aid bag for a brief interview.

Chloe is a 21 yr old woman who joined Denbigh Town at the beginning of this season and although she has a quiet personality she quickly proved a popular addition to the back room team at Central Park. She lives in Wrexham and is the middle sibling with two brothers and two sisters.

We wanted to know what Chloe did for a living and what brought her to Denbigh Town FC. Chloe said " I am a student studying for my Masters in Sports Therapy. I have a degree in Sport Rehabilitation and Massage which I obtained after spending three years at Cardiff Metropolitan University and am now doing a Masters Degree in Sports Therapy at Gloucester University. I study a lot at home but am down there for two full days midweek then home weekends which allows me to work and get experience with Denbigh Town Football Club. I saw an advert at the IPC in Wrexham [ Inspire Performance Centre gymnasium where Denbigh Town players train ] and followed that up. Working with players at a football team at this level is ideal for my CV and can only help me in the long term."

It was noted that Chloe visited the gym at Wrexham and so we asked if she was from a sporting family. " To be honest , no, not really. My brothers and sisters are not sporting at all. Just me."

It has to be said that Chloe is not a tall person and comes across as shy and unassuming so we wondered what sport she was in to. Her reply came as a bit of a surprise to say the least! " Boxing is my sport " she said. " I boxed from the age of 11 yrs to 17 yrs. I was with the boxing club at Llay and Brymbo." Chloe must have noticed the look on my face and said " Yes, I was quite seriously into boxing, still am, and went to Warrington every week where the facilities are better and to receive extra coaching at a higher level. " Chloe, in fact, was good and had a number of bouts losing the odd one but winning a few too. Her talent was noticed and she attended the training camp at Sheffield on occasions to train with the Great Britain squad. She hopes to gain employment somewhere in the boxing world at some future date.

We asked what got her interested in boxing " Dad was person who got me going. His friend was a boxer and he thought it would be a good thing for me to do. He helped me in every way, giving me encouragement and taking me to all the different places. He is a great support. "

It may be a strange thing to ask but we wondered if she had an interest in football or knew anything about the game previously. Chloe laughed " Yeh, yeh. I like football. I used to play for Brymbo juniors when I was a child in fact."

Chloe admitted that she was a little nervous when first joining Denbigh but has been made welcome and is now fully settled in. You will see Chloe running on the pitch if and when a player is injured during a match and needs some sort of treatment. She helps before the kick off on match day and will massage players if need be when one of the lads is suffering from a knock or niggle. She also applies tape to certain joints if extra stability is required, applies first aid after an injury and is always around to offer health advice in general.

We thanked Chloe who then had to rush off to join the coaching staff in the dug out.

Denbigh won 5 - 1 by the way and Chloe was only called into action once after a player went down.

Nice one Chloe!
