Denbigh Town continued their pre-season progression on Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory at Llay Miners Welfare.
Goals from Danny Clarke and Nathan Brown in the opening 20 minutes proved to be the difference as the squad continued their prep ahead of the new campaign.
Town began the game strongly and within nine minutes had the lead. Some good movement in the final third led the ball to Clarke who from 25-yards lashed the ball in via the bottom of the upright to nudge Denbigh in front.
Seven minutes later the lead was doubled when more excellent play deep in Llay territory led Brown to sweep the ball home from the left of the box and over the head of the goalkeeper.
Neither side troubled eachothers goal until the 36th minute as Llay pulled one back with a powerful low effort inside the box but the break arrived with Town still in front.
Half-Time: Llay 1-2 Denbigh Town
13 minutes into the second half Denbigh applied pressure and won a free-kick on the edge of the box, which Brown sent just over the bar. Three minutes later Llay responded with a chance of their own with a fizzed effort across goal pushed wide by Elijah Beattie.
Skipper Keiron Roberts came close to a rare goal just after the hour mark when a corner was delivered and headed just over the bar, but the best chance of the half came through a trialist. 72 minutes in and he picked the ball up 25-yards out before chipping the keeper and clipping the underside of the bar before bouncing back on the line.
Town maintained good pressure but with no further score, Dewi Llion’s side had their first win of the summer ahead of a visit to TNS on Friday night.
