Denbigh's final home game of the 2021-22 season ended with another 3 points with Mark Roberts grabbing our 100th league goal this season.
Llanrwst came to town to try and cement fourth place, having both Llanuwchllyn and Llay breathing down their necks with games in hand.
For Denbigh with third place secured, was an opportunity to put more pressure on Porthmadog with the race for second place very much going down to the wire, Port kicking off an hour sooner this evening.
The first 15 minutes of this game revolved around the centre of the park, both team struggling to maintain possession and create any clear cut chances.
On 16 minutes, the first real chance fell to Denbigh. Having won a free-kick on the left hand edge of the box, Jake Walker stepped up, brimming with confidence at set pieces following his mid-week exploits in the Summer League, this time seeing his free-kick cannoning off the far post and rolling bac across the goal line and to safety.
On 25 minutes, Danny Clarke, a constant thorn in the side of the Roosters defence, twisted and turned on the edge of the box before finding Walker with a pin point cross, whose header looped agonisingly over the bar.
4 minutes later, Clarke almost had the opener for Denbigh when he almost scored direct from a corner. The goal line clearance fell to Walker who forced Owen in the Llanrwst goal to tip his effort over. On 30 minutes, Josh Davies got in on the action, his diving header forcing Owen into yet another save.
The remainder of the half petered out and both sides went in at the break with the clean sheets in tact.
Denbigh were quick out of the traps in the second half, and on 48 minutes, grabbed the lead through Roberts. Some fine work from Josh Davies on the edge of the box, found Robbo with a defence splitting reverse pass, and Robbo clincially slotted the ball through the keeper's legs to grab the headlines and Denbigh's 100th league goal of the campaign.
On 63 minutes, somewhat against the run of play, Llanrwst were level. Noble's superb strike from the edge of the box cannoned off the crossbar, with Callum Parry quickest to pounce heading the ball into the empty net.
This was certainly a wake up call for the home side, and it didn't take long for them to restore their lead, with a finely worked team goal.
Paul Fleming with some neat footwork found Walker on the edge of the box, whose neat ball-work and delaying tactics allowed Sion Jones to make his way into the box; Walker playing the perfect pass into his path and Jones' first time low drive nestled in the far bottom hand corner with the keeper having no chance.
An excellent defenisve performance from the central pairing of Sharples and Rogers had very much kept the Roosters attacking force quiet, and it was Denbigh in the latter stages of the match who could have cemented their lead.
Sam Tate was introduced into the action on 81 minutes, replacing Billy Holmes with Clarke dropping back into the left hand side of defence to maximise Tate's attacking combative style of play.
Another solid home performance and 3 points for Dewi Llion's men.
Denbigh's final games of the season is away at Llanuwchllyn on Tuesday 26 April with a 6.45pm kick-off.
