10-man Town well beaten

Denbigh Town played out over 90 minutes with ten men as Holywell hit five at Central Park.

Goals from Zebb Edwards, Jake Cooke (brace), Brady McGilloway and Daniel Andrews saw off Denbigh who netted a consolation just before stoppage time via Jake Walker.

The game turned however after less than two minutes when the returning Jason Foulkes was sent off for a challenge in midfield.

Dewi Llion made changes to the side that faced Bangor 1876 six days previous with Morgan Thomas-Sadler out injured and replaced by Harry Lockley whilst Foulkes came in for the first time taking the place of Keiron Roberts.

On a wet and windy evening in Denbigh the game kicked off with the anticipation of a big game under the lights, and the first act of a dramatic evening came when Foulkes jumped in to a challenge and was shown a red card by referee Richard Wright.

Despite this Town did have chances, first Paul Fleming’s shot from the left was dealt with by Shaun Pearson before Ryan Kershaw had a speculative effort fly just over the bar.

Denbigh put themselves under a mountain of pressure though, which eventually told after 20 minutes when referee Wright pointed to the spot following a foul in the box. Edwards stepped up and slotted home left footed to give the visitors the lead.

After 29 minutes they doubled the advantage when Cooke cut inside from the left, beating Sion Jones before drilling one into the bottom corner beyond the reach of Aaron Jones.

Gareth Evans looked to make it three minutes later but his one-two eventually saw him drag an effort wide when he really should have done better.

Just before half-time Holywell added a third as McGilloway danced through the Denbigh box before finishing sublimely.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 0-3 Holywell Town

Despite the circumstances, Denbigh didn’t come out disheartened and registered the first effort of the second period when Tom Weir dashed down the left before hitting one into the side netting.

However, they quickly discovered that Holywell weren’t going to let up when Cooke added his second and the visitors’ fourth with a tidy finish.

On 56 minutes it was almost five when Evans clattered the crossbar following a defensive mix-up. A further piece of confusion led to the inevitable fifth as Andrews’ corner went straight in to sum up a disastrous evening.

Dewi Llion opted to make changes introducing Olly Hansen, Danny Clarke and Craig Rogers whilst in the latter stages Walker and Owen Herbert were introduced, Herbert, 16, making his league debut.

Substitute Hansen made an immediate contribution, striking a volley at goal that just couldn’t squeeze through the bodies in the penalty area whilst he had another effort blocked in the dying embers.

With four minutes to spare a Ryan Kershaw shot was spilled by Pearson and Walker followed up really well to tap home and give the home portion of the superb 486 in the crowd something to cheer for.
