- Eleven-goal thriller at Central Park

Denbigh Town made it five wins on the bounce on Friday night with a whopping 6-5 victory to smash the record for most goals ever in a JD Cymru North match.

A brace from Nathan Brown and Matthew Worrall alongside goals for Ryan Kershaw and Craig Pritchard sealed the win in one of the most spectacular games ever seen at Central Park.

One of the Cymru North’s most bizarre matches almost never came to being with a huge downpour putting the game in doubt in the afternoon before easing and quashing any fears of a postponement.

Denbigh went with the same starting XI that beat Airbus UK Broughton two weeks ago with Dan Parry-Jones making his 50th appearance for the club.

Within four minutes of kick-off it was Buckley who had the lead, their only one of the evening when Asa Hamilton popped up to poke home a simple finish.

Town rallied and within two minutes were level as a corner routine straight off the training ground found Kershaw on the edge of the box to rifle home a tremendous effort - his first for the club.

Not settling for level terms Denbigh were in front when Worrall received the ball following a break from Brown and the forward smashed the ball home via a deflection from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later on 13 minutes it looked like Denbigh were running away with it, as Brown was in on the act with a beautiful lobbed finish from the left.

However, things took a turn when a free-kick for the visitors found the head of Ben Lockley who turned it into his own net, before Lockley conceded a penalty which Hamilton dispatched to make it a horror two minutes for the 21-year-old.

With six goals in the opening 20 minutes the sides could be forgiven for turning a little goal-shy, Denbigh were on top and Brown, Josh Lock and Worrall all had efforts either dragged wide or saved.

Just before the break tempers boiled over, as Harry Lockley was barged into the advertising hoardings, an off the ball incident in the aftermath saw the left-back sent off with yellow cards also awarded to Worrall and Buckley’s Josh Dunroe.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 3-3 Buckley Town

It appeared both sides had followed on from the last match these two sides had that produced eight goals in the second half by grabbing six in the first this time out, and the second half of this was looked to be going the same way.

With Worrall denied twice in the first two minutes of the restart, Brown made no mistake with six minutes of the half gone as he cut in from the left before scooping the ball over Ryan Goldston.

In true keeping with the game though the lead lasted just four minutes as Liam Driscoll’s shot from 20-yards flew into the top left corner of Aaron Jones’ goal.

The 271 in attendance were unable to catch a breath as just after the hour mark Worrall netted his second. Brown again down the wing this time forced the keeper into a stop before Worrall was Johnny-on-the-spot to tap home the rebound.

Surely now Town could hold on? Nope, Buckley again pulled level just five minutes later via Connor Littler in what was the game’s tenth of the evening.

The game felt like it needed a moment of magic in the horrendous downpour, and it was duly delivered by Pritchard. He picked the ball up in the middle of the park on 72 minutes and beat everyone in his path before slotting the ball home to make it 6-5.

Denbigh almost wrapped it up with a seventh through substitute Olly Hansen who drew Goldston into a superb save whilst Ben Lockley’s header from a corner clattered the crossbar.

It’s now five wins on the trot in all competitions and three wins in a row in the JD Cymru North.
