- Town draw for the first time in over a year

Goals from Matthew Worrall and Nathan Brown were enough to secure a point as Town played out a 2-2 draw in Llandudno.

Former Denbigh forward Harvey Bennett struck after less than two minutes before Worrall levelled, and after the break Town turned the game on it’s head through Brown’s strike. However, five minutes from time Ethan Roberts’ goal meant Denbigh had their first draw in 410 days.

Dewi Llion named one change to the side that won at Flint 11 days previous as Nathan Brown returned to the starting line-up in place of Danny Clarke. A full compliment of seven substitutes were also available including Morgan Thomas-Sadler who hasn’t played since August due to injury.

The game couldn’t begin any worse for Town who after just over a minute fell behind through their former striker. Bennett was set through and gently glided the ball under Aaron Jones to put his side in front.

In a frantic opening ten minutes Denbigh replied in kind, as a corner came in that Llandudno failed to clear and Worrall belted the ball into the bottom left corner.

Sion Jones could have put Town ahead two minutes later when he picked it up in the hosts’ half before driving forward and hitting one from range over the bar. On 15 minutes Worrall almost had his second of the game when the ball was threaded through to him, but lacking composure he put the ball wide with only the keeper to beat.

Chances peetered out to a degree following the fast start, Ryan Kershaw dragged a shot wide from outside the box whilst Aaron Jones dealt with a couple of pop shots with relative ease before the game injected some ferocity just before the break.

A free-kick for Llandudno was drilled to the feet of the wall by Danny Holland before Bennett almost raced through before going down on the edge of the box, leading to Kershaw staying down with a knock to the head. Goalkeeper Jones was handed a yellow card and the set-piece came to nothing.

Half-Time: Llandudno 1-1 Denbigh Town

After the break it took less than 20 seconds for Denbigh’s first chance, as Worrall did well to shape and shoot from distance but the keeper held it well.

Seven minutes into the second half Denbigh had the lead. Josh Lock broke through before feeding it to Sion Jones on the left flank. Jones’ quick feet saw him advance into the box before laying it off to Brown to slam home from close range.

Just after the hour mark Llandudno began pushing forward more and more, and Bennett almost had his second when through on goal, only for Jones to make a sensational save to deny the youngster.

Looking to put the game to bed, Lock dashed through with 20 minutes to play beating two defenders before drawing Joe Angus into a stop. Kershaw had a tame effort minutes later also swept up simply by the home custodian.

Llandudno should have been level and those of a black and white persuation had their head in their hands after a ball across the box found substitute Ross Weaver who with the freedom of the box but his shot wide, before blasing one over moments later in a similar vein.

With five minutes to play the Seasiders drew level, Roberts advanced down the left channel before thumping the ball past Jones from an angle.

Heading into stoppage time either side could have won it, but no better chance fell to Jason Foulkes who sprinted down the right before slamming a ball over the bar from close range on the right of the box.

Neither side could find a winner in stoppage time and so Denbigh draw their first game since October 22nd 2022.

Town are next in action on Saturday with a trip to Guilsfield.
