Denbigh Town came out on top in a barnstorming seven-goal thriller at Central Park that saw Dewi Llion’s side come out on top by the odd goal.
Matthew Worrall’s brace along with efforts from Ben Lockley and Owen Davies secured the points in a ludicrous 90 minutes.
Manager Dewi Llion made two changes as Nathan Brown and Paul Fleming were unavailable due to suspension and were replaced by Davies and Sion Jones.
It took just six minutes for the first goal but despite the early stages it was one that’s been coming a while. Lockley rose highest for Josh Lock’s corner to head home his first goal of the campaign.
Four minutes later the visitors had the ball in the back of the net via Tom Kemp’s header, but the flag was raised for offside. The officials had no choice to make three minutes later though as Lock slid in Worrall who grabbed his 10th of the season and double the advantage.
However, the two goal deficit lasted just a minute as Emmanuel Lawal struck to halve the score before staggeringly Macauely Taylor poked home on 18 minutes to see off a quartet of goals within the first 20 minutes.
There was no signs of slowing down as both sides attacked freely and Worrall had his second on 24 minutes and the game’s fifth. A cross found Dion Gibbins who headed towards goal and Worrall was on hand to nudge it home for his brace.
Denbigh continued to press and two minutes later Lock crossed for Davies who running on to it couldn’t get a clean connection and was met by the goalkeeper just a yard out.
Just before the half-hour mark Town almost had a fourth via the most unlikely of unlikely sources. Goalkeeper Aaron Jones punted the ball high all the way towards to visitors’ box, the ball bounced over his counterpart in the Seasiders' goal and flashed inches wide of the post.
Town were unrelenting despite the lead and Worrall almost had a hatrick within half an hour, as Jones again booted forward over everyone as the striker ran on to it, he got a shot off that was bound for goal before being cleared an inch off the line.
Prestatyn had chances themselves of course, as Taylor crossed for Weir who yards out somehow blazed over the bar. Weir almost made up for it with 37 gone when he drove inside before pulling an effort wide from the edge of the box.
Just before half-time Town were forced into a change as Kyle Cooper couldn’t continue and was replaced by Olly Hansen.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town 3-2 Prestatyn Town
Denbigh began brightly in the second period, as a cross found Hansen who shaped to shoot before his effort deflected out for a corner.
Prestatyn took the warning seriously, and within five minutes of the restart restored parity. A deep cross from Kemp found Luke Wiltshire who sensed Jones rushing to claim and calmly nodded the ball over the keeper from 15 yards out.
In keeping with the first half, one goal was quickly followed by another. This time Worrall turned provider crossing from the left and meeting the head of Davies, who scored his third goal in as many matches.
Town sought after a fifth to give themselves some breathing room, Lock danced through the defence before his shot was saved and Worrall’s close rang rebound was turned behind. With 20 to play Sion Jones crossed for Hansen who brought it down and tested the visitors’ custodian who was more than a match.
The game became scrappy as the visitors desperately tried to level once again but Town were resolute. With five minutes added they threw the kitchen sink at it, including sending goalkeeper Adam Jones up for a corner, but despite a scramble in the box Denbigh cleared and completed their first double over Prestatyn since 2003.
Town are next in action on Saturday with a trip to Airbus.
