- Town Rule the Roost

Denbigh Town bagged a second-half treble to register back to back league wins for the first time since October, whilst also grabbing a clean sheet in the Cymru North for the first time in more than three months.

Nathan Brown marked his 100th appearance for the club with a tremendous volley to open the scoring before Kyle Cooper’s free-kick and Danny Clarke’s solo run rounded off a great afternoon at Central Park.

Dewi Llion made two changes to the XI as Sion Jones returned to the side after suspension whilst Iwan Roberts also played from the off.

In a tight game it took 20 minutes for either side to register an effort on goal when Owen Davies made inroads down the left channel before dragging an effort just wide. Moments later the visitors had a chance of their own when a corner was swung in and Kieran Booker headed towards goal but Aaron Jones was more than a match for it.

Daniel Flanders was a threat throughout and launched a ball into the box from the right, it was met by Ben Lockley before falling to Bobby Beaumont whose unorthodox effort was saved. The sudden burst of chances continued on the half hour mark when goalkeeper Jones sent the ball forward and Iwan Roberts wide right forced a low save. A minute later a Denbigh corner was cleared as far as Roberts again who burst through to the byline before clipping it to the back post when Davies’ overhead kick flew over.

Into the final ten minutes of the half a quick break from Denbigh led to Davies feeding the ball to Brown who despite other options opted to shoot from distance, but dragged a shot wide left. Penrhyncoch responded well with a low cross from the right directed towards Geoff Kellaway but he couldn’t steer the ball on target.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 0-0 Penrhyncoch

The visitors were first to register an opportunity in the second period when a corner was swung in and headed over the bar missing by inches. What looked like a warning shot was anything but however, with neither side testing the goalkeeper for large spells.

However, on 69 minutes the chance came when Denbigh broke well through Davies who crossed from the right of the box and the ball landed perfectly on the boot of Brown who hammered the ball home for the lead. Not a bad way to mark a century.

Six minutes later Denbigh applied more pressure when Iwan Roberts marked a nice move by hitting a low shot from the edge of the box but the visiting custodian was a match for it. Leigh Jenkins in goal had to be on his toes again two minutes later when Davies beat the offside trap before his low effort was denied.

With eight minutes to play Town won a free-kick 30-yards out just left of centre. Full-Back Kyle Cooper was the only man over it and duly stepped up. His left-footed effort saw him wrap his foot around it finding the base of the right post before netstling in the net to double the lead.

Four minutes were added at the end of the contest and three minutes into it Clarke broke on the right before cutting inside and burying an effort from outside the box into the bottom right corner to mark two milestones of his own, his 50th league game for Denbigh and 75th overall.

It’s back-to-back wins for Town who now take a two-week break before travelling to Llandudno next month.
