- Five Star Town Sign Off Home In Style

Denbigh Town signed off their final home game of the campaign with an emphatic victory at Central Park.

Alfie Vaughan and Nathan Brown were at the double whilst Owen Davies also found the net as Denbigh waved goodbye to LL16 until the next campaign.

Dewi Llion made two changes to the side that lost narrowly to Colwyn Bay a week previous with Jordan Pownall coming in for the suspended Keiron Roberts whilst Sam Duffy replaced Sion Jones. With Roberts’ absence, Nathan Brown took the armband.

Town’s first chance came after just seven minutes when Davies did well to dispossess a defender before running through but a slight bobble saw his effort balloon over the bar. Denbigh came even closer six minutes later when Ben Lockley lifted a ball over the top for Duffy who lobbed the keeper from distance and struck the right post.

Chances became limited though with neither side threatening other than Brown’s speculative effort from half way which flew over. However, eight minutes before the break Denbigh finally broke the deadlock through the in-form Alfie Vaughan. Brown played an excellent ball through to the forward who made no mistake when faced with just the keeper.

In stoppage time Town gave themselves breathing room when Brown got one of his own and finally netted his 50th league goal for the club. Duffy fed the ball from the right to the Town stalwart who swept it home to double the advantage.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 2-0 Llay Welfare

Within three minutes of the restart Town almost had their third when brilliant link up play between Davies and Vaughan saw the latter through on goal only for the keeper to make a great save to deny.

However, on the hour mark Davies was in on the action. The forward managed to nick the ball in the final third before bursting through and rifling the ball into the bottom corner.

Not content with the three goal advantage, Denbigh sought out more and with 21 left on the clock substitute Danny Clarke came agonisingly close. Some nice build up play led to a cross from the right finding Clarke on the left of the box but his volley from an angle whizzed just over.

Less than a minute later another substitute in Sion Jones should have scored, only for his cross to loop over the keeper but somehow was denied by his own man in Vaughan on the line, who was in an offside position. With 79 minutes played Town continued to look dangerous where Duffy raced through but was denied by a great low save from Henry Green before Vaughan’s follow-up deflected out for a corner.

As the game wound down Vaughan who’d been pushing finally had his second and Town’s fourth when a brilliant cross from Jones found Vaughan’s head who found the back of the net. Deep into stoppage time there was still time for one more which Brown dispatched nicely from Vaughan’s pass to heap misery on Llay who end the season without an away win.

Denbigh will next be in action at Gresford Athletic next weekend for the final game of the season, with the match being played at Airbus UK Broughton’s Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
