- Historic night ends level

Denbigh Town made their long-awaited return to Central Park on Friday night in front of a bumper crowd of just shy of 600, as Town shared the points with Buckley.

Nathan Brown’s equaliser saw him rise to joint-fourth on the recorded goal scorers list on what was already a historic night, as Denbigh opened up their new facilities changing rooms for the first time.

Dewi Llion made five changes to the side that faced Rhyl six days previous with both Gwion Dafydd and Nathan Doforo making their debuts. Elijah Beattie returned to the XI along with Keiron Roberts, Luke Johnston and Alfie Vaughan.

Seven minutes into the contest the first sight of goal was had by Denbigh when Doforo made a superb run down the left before his cross found Matthew Worrall at the back stick, but his cushioned volley was thwarted by Jimmy McHarrie.

In an early onslaught from Town Dafydd had his first chance when pouncing on a mistake at the back on 11 minutes, but his effort was stopped at the near post, whilst three minutes later he put an effort just wide from the edge of the box.

Buckley’s first chance came on 23 minutes when a free-kick from the left was headed at goal but Beattie made an excellent save but four minutes later it wouldn’t be the same result. Another ball into the Town box was headed towards goal by Nic Grogan to hand the visitors the lead.

Five minutes before the break Town came close again when a ball dropped to Worrall who’s looping volley landed just wide of the mark. However, in stoppage time a long ball from Beattie was flicked on by Vaughan who found Brown, he ran through before his initial shot was saved before smashing it on the swivel to level.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 1-1 Buckley Town

Shortly after the break Denbigh came close to a quick turnaround when Doforo again on the left crossed for Worrall who had his header expertly denied by McHarrie. Both sides saw plenty of the ball but it took until 65 minutes for the next chance of note when Brown delivered from deep for Ben Lockley at the back post, but again McHarrie made a great save.

A free-kick routine almost unpicked the Buckley defence with quarter of an hour to go as Brown laid a heavy ball to Duffy who raced on to it before his low drive whizzed just wide. With two minutes to play of the 90 Brad Knight almost won it when a corner to the far post found the forward but his headed effort was denied well by Beattie at the back post.

Deep into stoppage time though Denbigh could have won it, Sam Duffy linked up brilliantly with Bobby Beaumont before his low cross found Brown in the box, but he couldn’t keep his powerful effort down when faced with just the keeper.

Denbigh now return to league action in seven days time as Flint Mountain come to Central Park.
