Town run riot at Central Park

Denbigh Town ran rampant on Friday night as Dewi Llion marked equaling the record for games managed in some style.

The Town boss equalled Bill Dawson’s 225 games in charge on Friday night as his side put five past basement side Flint Mountain at Central Park.

Sam Duffy, Gwion Dafydd, Alfie Vaughan, Bobby Beaumont and Matthew Worrall all got themselves on the scoresheet in a terrific night for Town.

Denbigh made two changes to the XI with Scott McHarrie replacing the absent Keiron Roberts whilst Duffy came in for Worrall who took a place on the bench.

In truth the contest was fairly one sided, with Town dominating the chances throughout. The first sight of goal saw Denbigh put the ball in the back of the net on 12 minutes as Nathan Doforo slotted through Vaughan who pulled the ball across for Dafydd to finish, but the flag was raised.

Two minutes later Vaughan almost gave the home side the lead when Nathan Brown’s excellent cross met the toe of the Town forward, but the ball dropped inches wide of the right post.

Denbigh turned the screw throughout the opening period and came close again through Brown who hit one just wide from range on 38 minutes before Brown’s cross from a corner met the head of Dafydd, but he couldn’t keep it down.

Finally with a minute to go of the half Denbigh did break the deadlock. Neat play between Luke Johnston and Duffy saw the latter drive forward before smashing the ball into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box. A deserved lead for Dewi Llion’s side.

Moments after taking the lead Town almost doubled it when Duffy found Brown who from the edge of the box forced Dom Garner into an outstanding save.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 1-0 Flint Mountain

The rain continued to pour at Central Park but before the supporters could take their place for the second half, Town doubled their advantage. A brilliant run from Duffy saw him pull the ball back for Dafydd who swept home for his first goal for the club within seconds of the restart.

The floodgates really opened ten minutes later when Dafydd found Vaughan in the box whose outstretched foot beat the keeper to make it three and all but end the contest.

Not one to let up, Denbigh continued the onslaught where Brown’s corner met the boot of Beaumont who impressively volleyed home for the fourth.

Flint Mountain’s first real chance of note came on 73 minutes as substitute Joe Ly tested Elijah Beattie from range but the Town keeper pulled off an excellent save. However, moments later Beattie’s poor pass almost allowed Flint, his poor pass was intercepted by Rian O’Riordan who looked to get past him but was brought down, and the follow up shot was blocked by a recovering defender.

Though not really in doubt, Denbigh were well and truly out of sight with nine minutes to play when a through ball from Brown found Worrall who one on one showed there was only one winner as he forced the ball home.

A moment of consolation came for the visitors with three minutes to go, and one to forget for Beattie as Ly’s effort from outside the box managed to beat the keeper at his near post.

An excellent performance for Town who extend their unbeaten run at Central Park and maintain a great start to the campaign.
