- Fightback not enough for Town

Despite an attempted comeback from Town, Mold Alexandra proved to be the star of the show when it came to Denbigh in Flint.

Two first half goals for the Alex proved to be too much of a mountain to climb despite Nathan Brown’s 10th JD Cymru North goal this season.

24 hours earlier the game appeared in jeopardy when Mold’s Alyn Park looked like failing any potential inspection, but both sides agreed to move the clash to be played at Flint’s Essity Stadium.

Matthew Worrall came into the XI alongside Max Cooke who returned from injury, replacing Sion Jones and the unavailable Nathan Doforo. On the bench Seann McFee returned to the squad with Alfie Vaughan also away.

Within three minutes Town came close to opening the scoring when Worrall beat his man on the left flank before crossing for Nathan Brown, who had his effort from close range crash off the crossbar.

Despite coming close it was Mold who took the lead. A corner was swung in from the left which Oli Farebrother punched away, only for the ball to drop to Henry Nash who lashed it through a crowd of bodies to take the lead.

Town continued to press though and came agonisngly close on 15 minutes when Worrall unleashed Owen Davies one one one but from an angle his effort was tipped wide by goalkeeper Joe Smith.

A flurry of chances continued for Denbigh where a great move from back to front saw Owen Davies unleashed down the left before crossing to Brown, but his shot whizzed across the face of goal and inches wide. Brown came close again with two minutes to play in the half when his free-kick from the left was awkwardly punched leading it to go behind for a corner.

For all the pressure it was Mold who doubled the advantage. A long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with and Max McGoona got the wrong side of Dan Davies before finishing smartly.

Half-Time: Mold Alexandra 2-0 Denbigh Town

At the break Dewi Llion made two changes bringing on Sion Jones and Mike Pearson in place of Dan Flanders and Dan Davies, in a bid to get back on track. Jones was involved quickly when his cross found Worrall but his touch towards goal was matched by the keeper.

Two minutes later Davies threaded the ball through to Worrall on the left before he cut it back into Davies, he beat his man but couldn’t keep his left footed effort down.

On the hour mark Jac Humphreys was introduced for his debut and made a great first impression, feeding the ball to Pearson who’s excellent ball found Davies and in turn Brown, who with 64 minutes on the clock, swept the ball into the top right corner just inside the area.

Now it was game on, more excellent movement saw Worrall have an effort stopped inside the box before with 20 minutes to play the same man adjusted well inside the area before again being denied. A third effort in the space of five minutes from Worrall was again thwarted after Humphreys’ brilliant through ball found the forward, but Smith was on to it quickly.

Time was rapidly running out and Denbigh had one last chance as Jones’ cross eventually fell to Davies who on the edge of the box lifted his shot just above the bar, which proved to be the final act of a frustrating afternoon.

Town will now look to end their run of back-to-back losses at home to Holyhead next Friday.
