REPORT | Llandudno 4-0 Denbigh Town

Ollie Beech20 Feb - 23:55

- Town well-beaten at Llandudno

Denbigh were downed on Friday night with a quartet of goals as league leaders Llandudno took three points.

Three adrift by the break a late goal topped off a good night for the Cymru North’s top side who find themselves in a position of when not if they play top flight football next term.

Manager Dewi Llion made three changes to the side as Michael Pearson made his full debut, Nathan Doforo returned to the side and Keiron Roberts returned from injury, featuring for the first time since the beginning of November.

The home side began the better of the two and within four minutes nudged ahead. Nick Grogan picked it up on the right before rifling an effort into the back of the net from an angle.

Llandudno continued to press making life difficult for Town on a typical coastal evening with the wind swirling and a chill in the air.

On 21 minutes, they almost made it two only for the heroics of Oli Farebrother. A free-kick into the box found Grogan’s head and with the ball goalbound Farebrother pulled off a superb save to tip it on to the bar. Moments later he was called into action again when Aidan Higgins’ effort from the edge of the box had to be tipped wide.

Denbigh grew back into it a to a degree with neat football played at times, but couldn’t find the cutting edge to trouble ‘keeper Shaun Pearson. That lack of conviction allowed a continuously pressing host to eventually find a second. A corner for the home side was swung in by Anthony Stephens and headed home by Tom Stephens in a crowded area.

To make matters worse for Town just two minutes later they found themselves three down when Higgins on the left was allowed space in the box to lash home before the break.

Half-Time: Llandudno 3-0 Denbigh Town

Denbigh made two changes at the break with the introduction of Sion Jones and Jac Humphreys in place of Roberts and Dan Davies, as they began brightly after the interval.

Nathan Brown had a sight of goal ten minutes in from the edge of the area but pulled it wide, before perhaps Town’s best chance 15 minutes later when his free-kick from range bounced up ahead of Pearson who did well to push it wide.

Though Town stifled the Seasiders for the most part in the second half in what was an improved performance, Joe Carey was allowed far too much room on the left to cross for substitute Marc Williams who on his chest managed to nudge the ball in for a fourth.

That’s how things ended with Denbigh now recording three defeats on the spin and looking to bounce back with a huge test away at Holywell next Friday.
