Denbigh ended their five-game losing streak on Friday night in brilliant fashion as Town hit four at the Globe.
A pair of outstanding free-kicks in the first half from Nathan Brown either side of a Buckley leveller, saw Town on their way before Dan Davies scored the first senior goal of his career and Alfie Vaughan rounded things off late on.
Two of the league’s worst form sides met with the Bucks looking for their first win in the JD Cymru North in nine games whilst Town had lost five on the bounce. Dewi Llion opted for three changes to the XI as Mike Pearson, Sion Jones and Max Cooke came into the side, whilst Ben Lockley missed out through suspension, missing his first start since September 2023.
The game began with both sides having a go of it, and within four minutes we’d had chances at both ends. A corner from Brown dropped just behind Cooke who just couldn’t get an effort away, before the hosts broke through Asa Hamilton who crossed for Aled Bellis, but he couldn’t direct it on target.
Seven minutes in though Brown showed his intent as he darted forward before being scythed down 20-yards out. He dusted himself off and stepped up for the free-kick, rifling it into the bottom corner for the lead.
However, the lead lasted just eight minutes. A corner for the hosts was delivered and Connor Littler lost his man with ease, slotting home for a weak leveller on Denbigh’s part. Suddenly the Bucks had their tails up and put Town under pressure, a quick break on 22 minutes saw Josh Allen hammer just over from the edge of the box whilst two minutes later Hamilton was excellent in turning inside before thumping an effort which Oli Farebrorther did well to palm over.
Despite the pressure, Town were the side to get that crucial third goal of the game which Buckley had pressed hard for in the moments previous. Another free-kick, this time a little further afield, was hammered by Brown who found the top corner to top his earlier effort and restore the lead.
Town suddenly kicked back in to gear with some excellent play in the final third, but neither side troubled each other’s custodian before the break in what was a physical contest.
Half-Time: Buckley Town 1-2 Denbigh Town
A quarter of an hour into the second half the game came back to life, where, despite needing to replace Gwion Dafydd who was forced off, just before the hour mark, Town found their third of the evening. Brown went from scorer to provider as his corner found the head of Dan Davies who burst through a crowd to find the net.
The contest felt like petering out a little for Buckley, with Town showing more grit, desire and work rate in 90 minutes than perhaps the previous five games combined. Vaughan’s earlier-than-expected introduction saw him involved throughout, almost bagging the fourth on 79 minutes when his header from a corner was intercepted at close range.
Nathan Brown had a chance for not only a hatrick but a trio of free kicks only for this one to be pushed away by goalkeeper Seb Osment, and Owen Davies’ rebounded header flew over.
Jac Humphreys and Rhys Lloyd were introduced late on whilst the icing on the cake saw Sion Jones slip the ball through to Vaughan who rounded the keeper and finished with ease on 87 minutes to end that tricky patch of form with style.
Town will next be in action at Central Park next Friday with the visit of Airbus UK Broughton, who whilst Town picked up three points secured their top three finish in the Cymru North.
