Denbigh’s form well and truly switched on Friday night as Nathan Brown’s brace and an own goal from Joe Palmer saw Town beat newly promoted Airbus.
Whilst the Wingmakers will be competing in the Cymru Premier next term, they’ll do so having been beaten twice by Town both at home and on the road.
Brown opened the scoring on five minutes before Palmer turned the ball into his own net just before the break. Airbus fought back with a goal early in the second half, but Brown restored the two goal advantage with another possible goal of the season.
The visitors pulled back another but it wasn’t enough late on as Town stood firm for the win.
Dewi Llion made two changes from the side that beat Buckley a week previous, as Ben Lockley returned from suspension whilst Jac Humphreys came in for the suspended Max Cooke.
Within five minutes Town had the advantage, as Scott McHarrie threaded an inch-perfect pass for Brown who at an angle smashed home past goalkeeper Sam Fenney and a defender on the line.
Town were rampant in the first half, chasing every lost cause and smothering the visitors who endured a series of efforts blitzed at goal. Alfie Vaughan had a half chance with a volley that flew just wide before Gwion Dafydd curled an effort at goal from distance that had to be tipped over.
14 minutes in some brilliant one-touch football saw Brown’s shot deflected wide by a defender, before four minutes later Owen Davies squared the ball for Brown who took a touch on the edge of the box but couldn’t keep his effort down.
Airbus’ first real chance of note on 25 minutes came through Danny Warren, who on the right of the box forced Oli Farebrother into a stop at the near post. Denbigh responded moments later when Vaughan’s through ball for Brown saw him lift the ball towards goal but Fenney backpeddled to tip away.
On 37 minutes the crucial second goal came, when Brown’s corner was turned into the net by Palmer who in reality couldn’t do much to prevent it.
Half-Time: Denbigh Town 2-0 Airbus UK Broughton
The beginning of the second half saw the side from Broughton come out of the blocks quickly and put Town on the back foot. Warren had an effort denied again by Farebrother before being denied by a crucial tackle in the box by McHarrie.
Nine minutes after the restart Airbus halved the deficit, a free-kick from Jordan Evans was pushed away by Farebrother only for Nathan Williams to head back across and see his effort nestle in the bottom right corner.
The game appeared to change significantly just before the hour mark, as Owen Davies’ challenge was judged to be a foul by referee Nic Pratt, who handed him a second yellow card to reduce Town to ten.
Airbus continued the pressure, Evans this time had a pop from range which had to be dealt with by Farebrother, whilst Dewi Llion made his first change, introducing Keiron Roberts.
With the next goal looking destined to come from the visitors, a moment of magic from Brown saw him pick the ball up following a superb run from Lockley, and rifle the ball into the top left corner from 30-yards for a massive goal in the contest.
Vaughan almost grabbed the fourth on 68 minutes when played in down the left but his shot across goal was touched behind, whilst Brown nearly had his hatrick when Farebrother rushed out of his goal ahead of a forward, it was flicked on by Vaughan to him where he looked to chip the keeper from range, but Fenney did superbly to push it over.
With eight remaining the clash was in the balance, as the Cymru North’s top scorer Peers was allowed to turn just inside the box and make it 3-2.
Town’s final chance before battening down the hatches came on 85 minutes, a corner found Dan Davies who headed the ball against the near post. Now a barrage of balls into the Denbigh box just wouldn’t fall for the visitors, and Town held on for a huge win.
It was Airbus’ first league defeat since Town won at the Airfield in November, with Denbigh the first team to ever do the double over the Wingmakers since the beginning of the Cymru North.
