Denbigh Town ended the 2025/26 JD Cymru North campaign in horrific fashion with a 6-0 defeat to Caersws.
Town failed to get going, with many eyeing the off-season break on an afternoon to forget in mid Wales. To their credit, Caersws battled for everything throughout, with Town second best, summarising Denbigh’s season in part since kicking off back in July.
Dewi Llion had a depleted squad with the likes of Alfie Vaughan, Scott McHarrie, Gwion Dafydd and Ben Lockley unavailable. Dan Flanders played through a knock whilst Jac Jones and Morgan Fricker were called up again from the Reserves. Meanwhile, Keiron Roberts skipped in his final game of a successful career.
Town did have flashes in the opening stages and on 10 minutes registered the first chance as Nathan Brown forced Max Williams into an acrobatic save from range. Caersws’ first sighter came eight minutes later when Flanders gave away possession but Tom Edwards’ effort one on one was tipped away by Oli Farebrother.
With the home side getting on top they eventually had the opener a minute shy of the half hour mark. A corner was swung in by Lyndon Jones and met the header of Ash Jones, who lost his man and nodded in. Town did respond, four minutes later a corner was cleared as far as Sion Jones 25-yards out, but his volley was always rising.
The lead was doubled on 36 minutes with a great strike from the Bluebirds’ top scorer Tommy Rowlands, he swept the ball home from the edge of the box as it hit the underside of the bar and just bounced over the line. Just as Town needed the half time whistle to recuperate, things went from bad to worse. Rhys Hesden was unleashed right of centre before finishing neatly for three.
Half-Time: Caersws 3-0 Denbigh Town
Now playing for pride, Town came out with one change as Rhys Lloyd replaced Nathan Doforo, but within four minutes the hosts added another. A cross from Hesden found Rownlads to further the misery.
Town were forced into a change when Dan Davies was replaced by Fricker, who to his credit battled in the centre of midfield. However, there was no let up by Caersws who with an outstanding move outwitted Town before Edwards found the fifth on 64.
Town’s chances were limited, Brown forced Williams into a low stop from the left but in reality it was all they could muster. Jac Jones made his first team debut with ten minutes to spare and in stoppage time a sixth was found by Ash Harries, to really stick the boot in.
Now Denbigh have the summer to gather themselves and look to challenge in the JD Cymru North next term, having finished 8th this year.
