Denbigh Town kicked off the new Novira Cymru North season in perfect fashion with an impressive 4-2 victory over Buckley Town at The Globe, recovering from an early setback to claim all three points.

Goals from debutants Tom Kelly and Ffranc Vaughan-Evans, coupled with a penalty from Nathan Brown secured maximum points in a superb curtain-raiser.

Manager Dewi Llion handed four players their full debuts as Kelly, Toby Gallagher-Keenan, Osian Davies and Elliott Orton featured for the first time, whilst Vaughan-Evans, Tom Smith and Hugh Holland took a place on the bench. Alongside them, Findlay Starkey-Jones signed at the end of the week and was announced just prior to kick-off,

The hosts made the brighter start and were ahead after nine minutes when Aled Bellis found the net, handing Buckley the early advantage.

Town's response, however, was immediate. Just three minutes later, Tom Kelly drew the sides level, calmly finishing to settle any early nerves and swing the momentum in Denbigh's favour.

Dewi Llion's men continued to ask questions and were rewarded midway through the half when Nathan Brown confidently converted from the penalty spot to put the visitors in front.

With Denbigh now in complete control, Kelly struck six minutes before the interval again, finishing clinically to claim his second of the afternoon and send Town into the break with a deserved 3-1 advantage.

Buckley looked to force their way back into the contest after the restart and enjoyed spells of pressure, but Denbigh remained organised and dangerous on the counter-attack. Within the opening four minutes of the half, Kelly, who began brightly in the first 45 was forced off with a knock and replaced by Holland.

The points were effectively secured four minutes from time when Vaughan-Evans added a fourth having swept home following substitute Holland's low threaded pass from the right, capping an excellent attacking display.

The hosts were awarded a stoppage-time penalty when Luke Johnston brought a man down in the box, and Ben Guest converted, but it proved nothing more than a consolation as Denbigh saw out the closing moments to begin the campaign with a deserved victory.

The result extends Town's excellent recent record at The Globe and provides the ideal platform ahead of next Saturday's home opener against Bangor City 1876, as Dewi Llion's side made an early statement of intent in the 2026/27 season.
