Denbigh Town's winning form came to an end on Saturday afternoon as Novira Cymru North table-toppers Brickfield hit twice without reply at Clywedog Park.

Goals in either half from Josh Evans and Lewis Wynne without reply from the visiting Town saw the home side come away with a deserved three points.

Eddie Maurice-Jones made two changes to the XI that started a week previous against Trearddur Bay, as Tom Kelly and Luke Johnston came into the side in the place of the suspended Sion Jones and Tom Smith. The bench saw four players called up from the Reserves in Seann McFee, Jacob Duffy, Rhys Lloyd and goalkeeper Billy Wilde with both Max Cooke and Nathan Brown also suspended.

Town began the contest brightly and had a couple of glances at goal within the opening 12 minutes. Kelly picked the ball up on the edge of the box before forcing 'keeper Carl Jones into a low stop to his left. Jones was called upon again less than a minute later when Harry Martin's drive was initially spilt before being recovered as Kelly lurked for scraps.

However, on the half hour mark the home side took the lead as Evans did well down the left before his strike took a deflection and evaded Oli Farebrother to nudge ahead. It proved to be the only real danger to either goal in a game deprived of any real quality.

The second half continued the theme of the first where neither goal was truly being tested in a scrappy battle and little flow. Ffranc Vaughan-Evans was introduced on the hour mark to partner Alfie Vaughan as Town looked to make it stick in the final third.

Despite their efforts, Denbigh's deficit would double on 67 minutes, as a corner was swung in and couldn't be cleared, before Wynne's swinging leg found the bottom right corner.

Jacob Duffy helped spark the comeback in the Welsh Cup a week before and was tasked with doing the same when introduced with 14 minutes of the 90 to play. But Denbigh were guilty of being naive at times, and were almost caught once more with five left on the clock as Andy Vale was through but he was thwarted by Farebrother one on one.

The likes of Lloyd and McFee were also given their first appearance for the First Team this season and looked bright, but couldn't mount a sensational comeback for the second week in a row.

Town move on to Friday evening with the visit of Holyhead Hotspur to Central Park.
