Captain marvel Danny Jellicoe scored the only goal of the game in a tense battle at Bodedern.

There wasn’t much between the teams in wet and windy conditions with the only goal of the game coming in the 70th minute.

Denbigh made a bright start to the game forcing several corners and pinned Bodedern back but no chances were created in the opening 20 minutes. Bod looked dangerous on the counter attack with their 2 pacey wingers a constant threat.

Far too often Denbigh were wasteful in the last third with the final ball, shot or decision. Kristian Pierce fired a couple of 30 yard efforts over the bar. Denbigh should have been 1 nil up at the break but were denied by the linesman’s late, late flag. Swarbrick crossed from the right for Mark Roberts to drill a 12 yard effort which the keeper could only parry. Mike Lundstram rolled the ball into an empty net but Denbigh’s celebrations were halted as they spotted the flag.

The second half saw a role-reversal of the opening 45 minutes as Bodedern pressed on kicking down the slope with the wind at their backs. Jellicoe, Jones, Todd and Slater were excellent at the back marshalled brilliantly by Jamie Hulse. Stuart Vernon was brought on for Mark Roberts after 55 minutes and showed excellent composure and skills down the right.

On 70 minutes Denbigh took the lead after good work down the right hand side. Liam Jones throw in was played back to him by Williams-Cooke before crossing low into the box. Jellicoe took a great touch before arrowing a 10 yard shot into the bottom corner of the net to spark wild celebrations.

This brought Bodedern back to life and they pushed in search of the equaliser throwing all they had at Denbigh. The back four, with Slater in particular, were magnificent and time after time Denbigh threw bodies in front of the ball to hold on. They clung on to their lead to gain a precious 3 points which keeps them 1 point ahead of Caernarfon, who beat Pwllheli 5-0 away from home.

It sets up a mouth-watering clash at Central Park on Tuesday (7.30pm kick off) against an in-form Holywell who have already beaten Denbigh twice this season.
