Denbigh Town advanced through to the Semi-Final stage of the WBS League Cup Northern Section with a huge victory over Flint.
Goals from Matthew Worrall, Ryan Kershaw, Josh Lock and Tom Weir secured their spot and become the first side to win at Flint this season.
Dewi Llion welcomed back Nathan Brown who returned from a short stint in Dubai and was named amongst the substitutes whilst Danny Clarke had a place in the starting XI.
The game began with both sides carving out chances. Town had a corner on three minutes which fell to Ben Lockley latched on to, striking the post before Lock fired wide.
Denbigh continued the pressure with Kershaw testing the goalkeeper before Worrall took a touch and struck the ball just over in the opening ten minutes.
Despite the early onslaught it was Flint who fired themselves in front when capitalising on a defensive mishap, that led to Louis Lacey drilling the ball home.
That advantage would last just two minutes. A brilliant move from Town ended with Worrall tapping home from just six yards out.
Flint were dangerous on the break and a long ball over the top found Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro who volleyed towards goal from the right which Aaron Jones saved well, before the rebound flew wide. The experienced forward had another chance on 23 minutes when he found himself one on one with Jones but got his effort all wrong and it flew well wide.
Denbigh responded with Weir pickpocketing the last defender but couldn’t find the target as his shot flashed across goal.
Just before the break Town had the lead, a great passing move found itself midway into the Flint half with Kershaw who drove forward before firing into the bottom corner, reminiscent of his goal against Prestatyn a week previous.
Half-Time: Flint Town United 1-2 Denbigh Town
The first opportunity of the second period fell to Craig Pritchard who picked up the ball on the left, cut inside, and fired inches wide of the target.
A minute later Flint levelled to begin a frantic couple of minutes. Akpa-Akpro capitalised on poor defensive play and punished Denbigh by firing home inside the box.
However, just a minute later Danny Clarke made a superb run down the left channel before crossing to Lock who bundled the ball home.
Town made it four with 27 minutes to play when Weir latched on to a long ball and calmly slammed the ball low into the back of the net.
With 20 minutes left Flint almost halved the deficit through Akpa-Akpro when Josh Jones’ cross from the right was turned onto the post.
They almost had their third with six minutes to play as a ball came in from a corner and dropped to George Maire who sliced the shot wide.
Denbigh despite being under the cosh still found chances in front of goal, Lockley made a run down the right before crossing to Jason Foulkes, the substitute cut in onto his right and curled the shot inches wide of the far post.
Flint finally had their third via Harvey Drazdauskas leading to a nervy ending but they couldn’t send it to penalties with Town through to the next round.
